I loved this game on Dreamcast, but can't imagine playing with KB/M, If anyone could let me know if a 360 controller will work, I'd be greatful.
It works with my 360 pad, but not all buttons are recognized (namely, the dpad, bumper buttons, and right analog stick). Also the left analog stick is too sensitive. I'm thinking I'm gonna take a stab as a joy2key configuration for it to see if that helps things.
It "works," but unless you have drivers that let you adjust the deadzone Raziel is going to be running all over the place. You're probably going to just have to stick with Xpadder on this one.
yeah I'd say xpadder be the best option here.
It's not actually using the xpadder. I know it works in wondows wasd see! In game it's not seeing it though.

What version you using? I was having similar issues with version 5.7, so just for the hell of it I downloaded 5.3 set it to run as admin (if you have windows 7 then you need to set capatability mode on it to XP or something) and map it to that.

That worked for me.
Thanks! Running it in Admin & XP mode worked. Still using the most current version.
As per my post in the 'Q. Gamepads" thread, I have an Xpadder Profile I use with the game which works well. Unfortunately I can't attach it here.... I'll see if I can put it up on DropBox or 4shared or something. Or, send me a PM and I can email it. About Xpadder not working... I've had no issues with the latest version (2012.01.19). I'm also on WIndows 7 (64bit Ultimate).

And this is my Xpadder profile, if anyone wants to try it:

And the rest of the files (controller profile and background image), if anyone wants to check them:

You can control Raziel with the Left Stick or with the D-Pad.
Jump/Swim: A
Devour Soul: B
Aim/Grapple: Y
Action: X
Crouch: LB
Sneak/Face Enemy: Left Trigger
Zoom: Right Trigger pressed, then move with the Left Stick or with the D-Pad.
Pan Left & Pan Right: Move Right Stick left or right.

Hopefully this will clear up the control problem for me, as our protagonist here is constantly running in a circle, and as other posters has said, playing this on a keyboard and mouse isn't an option I want to try. 3rd person = controller, my rule of thumb.

Though this doesn't clear up the heinous graphics. I know this was on the dreamcast, but it looks worse than I remember the old N64 games looking. This might actually be graphically inferior to Outcast. The menu screen looks like something out of an old MSDOS game.

It might not be practical, but more games need to be more "future-proofed". Tribes 2, for instance, is from 2001 and it looks respectable in 2012 at 1920*1080, but this game hurts my eyes. It's a shame, as the intro movie seemed pretty interesting.

You put it on keyboard your character should immediately stop running and once you program the keys in (It's only a few so it's a rather simple config" and you'll be playing it just like it was on PSOne.

As far as the graphics this wasn't mainly designed for the PC it was designed for play on the Playstation originaly in mind and ported the PC at the same time and enhanced in the time waiting for the Dreamcast. The PC versions is technically an inferior port of that version. When designing it, you don't really "future proof" a console game as the console is going to be replaced not upgraded.

They actually did us a favor by putting in so much choice for resolution, So many games out at that time can't do anywhere close to that but I'm able to jack the game up to 1920x1080 and while the textures are still from PSOne era the game is crisp and clear.

If you are putting the resolution up I don't see how it's hurting your eyes.. I didn't know low quality textures produced headaches lol. Try playing the game on a PSOne hooked up to yoru monitor THAT will give you a headache. And 2001 is the start of a new gen of gaming. Soul Reaver is from 1999 which was still the N64/PSOne era.. in 2001 you had Dreamcast and Playstation 2

And they did enhance the game a year later for the Dreamcast. Raziel's poly count is significantly higher in the Dreamcast version and tehy redid much of the effects.

The sound crackling is a bummer but based on what I've seen the PC version of the game is using and older version or rougher cut of the audio files. There isn't a much varation, there is differences to the dialogue (the move FMV is completely different audio track).

I'm having a blast with it regardless though I may look into seeing if there is a way to replace the FMV with the good version.

And really if you think this is bad, what are you going to say if/when they bring us Blood Omen ?

I don't know how could you say something bad about the graphic. This is GOG afterall, old games. The graphic is decent enough to me, on par with the old NFS, POD, Speed Buster and certainly better than most of sprite-based FPS that being offered here.

The main problem I have with the graphics is that they flicker and I can "see through" the level to a monochrome light blue background at points. I saw similar symptoms in other threads in this forum, with no fixes :(

The text on the menus is so blurry and low-res that I find it very strenuous to read at 1080, and the controls really do have issues.

Several other games on here have graphical mods (eg:Outcast, Giants, Bloodrayne 2). This game, IMHO, desperately needs one.

Didn't we have the Dreamcast in 1999? ;)

I don't think that I'll be too interested in Blood Omen. I only picked this game up as I remember having it for the Dreamcast back in the day but never really getting to play it. I'm not a "vorthos" for Legacy of Kain franchise.

I did find Duke Nukem 3d vastly more playable, but I'd say the same about any game that didn't default to flickering graphics and my character running around in a perpetual left circle.
You really can't expect a 13 year old game to run flawlessly. Especially when the original devs themselves haven't even bothered to try and get the game to run properly. The one and only official patch was a LONG LONG time ago. Most of the stuff since then to give people even a shot to run has been fan made. The technology now using to run the game is vastly different and there is going to be issues.

The Legacy of Kain fanbase is very dedicated and at times we are almost fanatical about the series. People like Ben Lincoln have tore the games apart, I am sure if there was any way to upgrade the game or fix any issue, stop whatever graphical problems you are having it would have been done if it could have been done.

Really though the game was designed around the Playstaton and the PC version was a port of that. You will typically even today find many PC ports of console titles are inferior.

I don't see the point in making a big deal about the control issues. Keyboard controls work flawlessly, the gamepad thing, once again that is likely a problem due to differences between WIndows 98 and Windows 7 and it's not really that big of an issue to complain about since there is any number of gamepad profilers out there these days and Soul Reaver takes about 1 minute to program with the very few controls it has. Really though the keyboard controls are pretty much just the PSOne controller controls mapped to the KB, so you spend a moment putting them on a profile and it controls no different than the console version would. I use either my nostromo n52 or my 360 controller for every game I play and 95% of the time even with new games have to map the game to one of them.

It's a shame you don't look further into the series beyond Soul Reaver. The Legacy of Kain series has the or at least one of the best stories in gaming (I think best personally but some have a few above) an definitely the best voice acted game series of all time. I got my introduction into the series with Soul Reaver on playstation and later Dreamcast. Blood Omen is like the base Canon that the whole series builds upon. Blood Omen gameplay wise is largely compared to a 2d Zelda game if you've played those. Just a much darker theme, much harder difficulty and a storyline that caters to an older audience.
