Tekkaman-James: Per the game's store page,
"Last Day of June is inspired by Steven Wilson’s haunting song “Drive Home.” Recreated as an interactive adventure, Last Day of June takes players on a profound and poignant journey." In addition, Steve Wilson is the game's composer and Jess Cope, the animator/director of the music video, designed the characters and visual style of the game. As such,
Last Day of June is both an homage and an extension of the original song and music video.
As for whether or not the game is worth the sale price, I would say it most definitely is. While you can probably beat the game in about three hours (less if you're rushing through it), I compare the game's price more to the cost of seeing a movie in the theater. In that sense, the game is certainly worth it. The story really grabs hold of you and is one of less than a handful of games that have made me cry. My wife was openly sobbing by the time the credits rolled. It is a brief, but powerful, experience that I will not soon forget.
Thanks for the detailed response. I'm definitely picking it up now! Steven Wilson's has always had an emotional impact on me, and this just looks beautiful! If you haven't already, I highly recommend watching his music video for Routine. It's a very sad song and video, but it's beautifully done and has also had a lasting impact on the way I think about coping with loss.
