I get that mission failed bug all the time as well :( Totally annoying, destroys the game completely. I really like it and I wish I could build my base in peace, but guess I have to try to speedrun through the game which is less satisfying :/
RESOLVED: missions often fail when you spend a lot of time building and defending your base and not attacking the enemy, trying to destroy their base.

The name of the game is crush, kill, and destroy, so it makes sense that if you don't do those things, you've failed it's goal (:

Maybe that's just another joke of the game - a prank, in this case. I think it's actually good, because it forces you to have timing, and attack even if you think you're not ready. Often the best way on a level is to attack right when the game starts (on the first levels of each campaign), when the enemy has a small defense, and you've been given more units to defend yourself. Advancing in the game, it'll take more time, but usually a more concise early army (after you've played and studied the level one time) is much better than a monstruous late one.

True, but some people (like me) actually enjoy building a base for hours and not just stress attack the enemy after 10 minutes. The game is not enjoyable having an invisible time limit. If it was a countdown, then I may have accepted the "feature".
This appears to be bug... I started mission 5 for evolved and in the instant I got mission failed without even seeing anything. The mission kept auto restarting and failing. This actually never happened to me with cd version
KKND2 got an update.

Is somebody tested it ?

Still same problems...
The original source code is lost. Unlikely someone is able to properly fix that.

c_xong: Lately I've begun playing this game again, but using the KWIP high-resolution mod. FWIW I have never encountered any bugs so far, unlike two years ago where it was very common.

So try out the KWIP mod; playing on high resolution is also a plus.
I can confirm, that using the KWIP mod from moddb and running the game in Windows 98 compatibility resolved the issues for now, the errors are gone. I haven't tested a lot yet though, so they might come back in later missions.

Still, selling a basically non-functioning game out of the box is not the way to go, gog. I would try contacting the KWIP developer and maybe assimilate his work for future patches.

Well, just the same. Mission failure without visible reason.

For me, switch to Win98 combability was enough to solve it.

I can add that it is not related to oil level (I was that thought, what another "timer" it can be). Mission fails even if oil pools are still full.
