I can't get the gog version of King's Quest 8 to work at all on windows 10. I've tried multiple solutions to no luck. The game loads, but after I press new game, it takes me to the loading screen with the map and stops at 20% on the loading bar.

I've included references pictures of every step I did. Hopefully someone much smarter than I can fix this.

#1: I downloaded the game from gog with those boxes clicked

#2: How the files look after the game downloaded to my pc

Game test: nothing, stuck at 20% on map loading screen

#3: Photo of what to do with the kqmoefix

#4: How the kqmoefix.exe looks after placed into the game folder

#5: Enabling the shim for Mask.exe

Another game test: nothing, stuck at 20% on map loading screen

#6: Photo of running the kq8fix.exe with the logging changed per the suggestions in photo #3

#7: The new files created after doing the kqmoefix solution.

Another game test: nothing, stuck at 20% on map loading screen

#8: The nglide config version that came downloaded with the gog download (1.04)

#9: Downloading a new version of the nglide config

#10: How it looks after downloading the newest nglide config version (2.10)

#11: How the 2.10 nglide config looks after downloading to my pc with all its files and location in my pc.

#12: Deleting glide2x.dlll (suggested by other people) since the file causes problems.

Another game test: nothing, stuck at 20% on map loading screen

#13: Deleting nglide config version 1.04 from my game file and copying over nglide config version 2.10. (I guess my nglide located in the game directory was supposed to update automatically, but it didn't and I previously had both the old and new versions on my pc. This shows the new nglide config version 2.10 in the same place (game directory) as the now deleted old nglide config)

Another game test: nothing, stuck at 20% on map loading screen

At this point I played around with the game and different compatibility modes such as Windows 7 and XP versions and still nothing.

Honestly I have no idea what else to do and I'm pretty sure I followed previous fixes to the t, but still nothing.

Problem solved thanks to two step by step videos of how to install correctly.

Since I can't post video links for some reason, you'll have to search for these two videos on youtube:

This is awesome, but I can't get kqmoepfd.cmd anywhere

I had kqmoefix from the last time I tried this, but the site everywhere lists it as is down - did you just email the guy?

I know this is a year late, but... kqmoepfd.cmd is pat of kqmoevol.zip - I didn't have any issue downloading it from this link: http://svn.nicode.net/kqmoevol/bin/

Spectacular! Had a hankering for playing a couple old games again. This game was temperamental back when it was new. With the files and instructions you found it works better than even then.

KQ8 has been buggy from Jump. I have played it to end several times, but had t DUMB DOWN the rig, as it was written for much older and LESS endowed rigs. Even so, you are encouraged to SAVE OFTEN, they MEAN IT. I suggest disconnection of any un-needed attachments, and slow W-10 to W-7 levels, 3.0 would be better. I first played on HP with about 1 g ram , no vid card, back on '98-99. There are solutions for the issue, as I also played on Alienware Aurora, with 16 Gb, and vVidia 2040, and i-7 crancking @ 4Ghz. BUT it ws touch and go.
I have done everything suggested. I got the game to work, though it would still crash once in a while. I did save very often. I got to the point where I talked to the unicorn. It crashed just after that, now it seems to crash every time on start up. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks. found it.
I finally got it to work on windows 11 with 12th gen intel cpu and nvidia 3060 graphics. I followed the guide here and it still didn't work until I set it to windows xp 2 compatability.
I have tried everything to get this game running and it still loads to just 20% and crashes, this is getting really damn annoying, GOG needs to fix this problem and now, I am tired of lazy bums not doing what they are paid for to begin with.
Dogvoodoo2 is pretty good for this game. It appears to be faster than nglide but results could be different depending different configurations.
But for faster loading and smoother gameplay, alongside dgvoodoo2 I recomend a little program called kq8fix. I is worth the try.
