I cannot play any JJR title because DosBOX Emulator crashes at startup. I am running Windows 10. Any bright minds here who can help me with some workarounds? I am pretty sure I am up to specs in terms of hardware. Should I work with the compatibility settings? On which executable? Or what else should I do?

From what I've heard about Windows 10 so far crashes like this one will keep happening with various games. There is a high probability this was caused by a Windows 10 update. You could either try and remove updates, switch to another OS (either just for gaming or for everything), contact GOG's support or wait for someone to have that exact same problem (or at least someone who knows how to fix it) to make a post here after figuring out a solution.

In theory, Jazz Jackrabbit runs on a wide variety of OSes, so if you switch out your OS I would recommend a switch either to Windows 7 or Debian.

That being said (and while there is always a chance that someone in the community might able and willing to help you) it's probably the easiest to contact GOG's support about this issue. This might also lead to patches for future players.

Oh, and whatever path you choose: Best of luck!

Hey, thanks. I have similar issues with a few other games, including most of the Delta Force series, which I bought here because the Steam versions refused to start after a while. Alas, these crash too. I tried various compatibility settings, nothing worked. I also believe it is a Windows issue, because the games used to work before (though I don't know about Jazz, I bought it recently).
I'm not familiar with your specific problem, but here are some generic troubleshooting ideas:
* Can you run other applications using DOSBox? For example, the SETUP.EXE that comes with JJ1? Or maybe download a shareware version of some other DOS application to try that?
* From what I've heard, GOG distributes a very outdated version of DOSBox, for all their games. Perhaps if you try downloading it from the DOSBox website instead of from GOG?

GOG uses the latest stable build (in most cases). It is very old, but technically it is not outdated ;-)

@alooper21: Can you try an SVN build or DOSBox ECE?

I managed to run it by choosing the OpenGL graphic mode in More>Other>Graphic Mode Setup. While it is a simple fix, it is rather hidden from casual and novice players, it could help if GOG made it more visible, like put it directly in the Menu (instead of a sub-menu) OR as a dedicated button next to Play and More, for all games which may have extra settings, like games which need to run on DOSBox.

Too bad such option is not available for Jazz 2 collection, so that one keeps crashing.

(I would attach an image, but it seems to fail to attach)

Try using this version of DOSBox.

I find it works better with JazzCD than the standard DOSBox build. It's also easier to get things running in their proper resolution and aspect ratio with this one.

I have 2 different computers both running up to date windows 10. The hardware is similar. Computer 1, the slower system ran DOSbOX right from installation, no problems. After installing it on system 2, I will try to run Dosbox and I get a quick blink of a dos/black command screen, so quick I can't read the message there, and the window closes back to desktop. Any idea how to read the error message or fix the crash? all help appreciated.

Same Problem on Windows 11. In my case there was a problem with the display resolution (3200x2000).
Used the GOG offline backup game installer.
No modified DOSbox required.
I fixed it by adjusting the compatibility settings:

right-click on"Jazz Jackrabbit Collection" desktop icon --> more options --> options --> compatibility mode --> check "run in 640x480" --> OK

Hope this will help some Jazz Jackrabbit fans! :)

Jazz2 is a windows game, not a DOS game. It crashes if you try to run it through DOSbox, likely.
