eurosalmon: Hello all,

Glad to join the GOG community. Been trying all the manipulations suggested in this topic, but still JA 2 is not lauching!

For the mac version, the icon is boucing a few time, the game launches but no windows open, and it closes shortly after (approx 6 to 8 seconds)

I tried the PC version with Wine, but I get the "Oops! No new executables found! Maybe the installer failed...?" error message.

I think I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what! :D

Running OS X Mavericks 1.9.2 on a mid-2009 15" MBP
8 GO Intelcore2duo with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 Mo

Big up to all people providing old games for our new systems ;)

Konstriktor: Did you get the black screen followed by blue screen and then nothing?
Nope, only the bouncing icon and it stop after 8secs... No black or blue screen.

I'm playing with the PC version on my room mates laptop from time to time, but I would really love to have it running on my personal computer.
I tried to do a new win package with the pc installer, not working either. I'm not that good at all this terminal and hacking stuff sooooo I don't really now what I can do more.
OK so I was also trying to play Jagged Alliance 2 on my Macbook Air running Mac OS 10.10.4.

I got it running with Straciatella.

This is what I had to put in the ja2.ini file:

#Tells ja2-stracciatella where the binary datafiles are located
data_dir = "/Applications/Jagged Alliance 2.app/Contents/Resources/game/Jagged Alliance 2.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/GOG.com/Jagged Alliance 2"

Hey,

I downloaded, installed and could not launched. Following on instruction for mac issues I adjusted (mac specs, acessibility, etc.) but it does not help. Only I could not try in other user acccount because of permission issue.

Installation was ok. When I launch it only up appears in the mac line Jagged allience 2 but nothing happens and disappear even the line in the moment.

I tried to adjust resolution and change wineskin verstion (it is strange that with the game is 2.5 version and on webpage 1.7).

However nothing helped.

I have 10.10.3 OSXversin on macbook air mid-2011 (i5)

And finally a tried to write to suppor GOG, but I cannot because I could not upload DxDiag which somehow does not exists on Mac.
Well, jammed.

Please help.
If anyone still has issues with this, I just changed engine to WS9Wine1.7.15NoFlicker, and that worked for me (I tried the most recent engine, but that had some flicker so I figured I should try the one called NoFlicker).

That even worked with the 1.13 mod.
Alter MAC OS update to El Capitan JA2 tells me to install X11. After installing X11 it still does not work.

The error now is: An error occurred while starting the X11 server: "Failed to activate core devices."

Any ideas?

Attempt to update Wineskin & engine, disable SIP or wait for GOG to push the update (might be a while). Oh, you might also try support.

gzigzigzeo: Also I did (not sure it needed).

1. Go to Wineskin downloads page.
2. Download and install WS9Wine-1.7.29 engine.
3. In wineskin Advanced -> Tools -> Update wrapper
4. Choose "WS9Wine-1.7.29"
5. Click "Refresh wrapper"
That did the trick for me, although it should be simply the option "change engine used." Well, I'm using a slightly newer version of Wine, but the version GOG is using is positively ancient.

Seems like the only problem I have is if I quit the game from the main menu it crashes, so I use the standard command-q to quit instead, which can't be done when one uses the Mac driver. It's funny how this game runs better now on my Mac Mini than it does on my Win 8 lappie (meaning: not at all). ;)

JA2 isn´t running :(
I tried to install stracciatella, after solving some issues with SDL library and finally installing SDL2 i get the following message at make install for stracciatella:

-----------------------
SimulateMouseMovement(unsigned int, unsigned int) in Input.o
"_main", referenced from:
implicit entry/start for main executable
(maybe you meant: _SDL_main)
ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64
clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)
make: *** [ja2] Error 1
-----------------------

Any suggestion how i can run JA2 or install stracciatella ?

Unfortunately this didn't work for me for OSX 1.11.1. Though it got the game to launch with audio and the game's cursor, the screen stayed black.

Tried with both WS9Wine-1.7.29 and WS9Wine-1.9.15 (latest).
Hi There,

Just spent a day and a half trying to install this myself with no luck. Those who successfully got it working, can you confirm if you had a discrete graphics card or if you were just using the intel integrated card? My Mac only has an integrated card.

Here's my issue:

I install JA2 and go to run it and it essentially never starts, the icon just hangs and I have to force quit it.

I install stracciatella and go to run it and get a message "ja2 quit unexpectedly."

I tried creating a ja2.ini file (which had not been created) in the .ja2 folder with the script mentioned earlier:

[Ja2 Settings]
CD=c
#Tells ja2-stracciatella where the binary datafiles are located
data_dir = "/Applications/Jagged Alliance 2.app/Contents/Resources/game/Jagged Alliance 2.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/GOG.com/Jagged Alliance 2"

This did not work.
I also tried downloading latest wine (2.2something), updating the existing wrapper, creating a new wrapper, etc etc with zero success.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Or I definitely need a discrete video card to run it please let me know so I can stop wasting my time. Thanks in advance!

What version of OSX are you using? You might be screwed if you're running Catalina (10.15.x), which dropped total compatibility for 32bit applications. Prior to Catalina, I used to be able to get JA2 to run using Wineskin 1.7, but... Wineskin doesn't solve the issue of trying to run 32 bit Windows applications on an operating system with no 32 bit libraries.

There may be hope in the near future, though. CodeWeavers (the developers of WIne) have apparently solved this problem with their CrossOver product (basically their commercial version of Wine), and are said to be pushing that update to Wine itself at some point in the future. More info on that here:

Celebrating the difficult; the release of CrossOver 19

If you haven't updated to Catalina yet... Try using WIneskin. That had worked for me in the past.

Looks like my previous post disappeared. This is just a test.

... And it's back. Odd. It wouldn't show page 3 before. And... now I can't delete this post. Ugh.
