hello

i'm here because i have the known bug about any 3Dcgi cinematics not being displayed after missions, and instead having a black screen, with cursor, but cannot skip said non displayed cinematic.
i'm in fact blocked as soon as the end of deer hunt tutorial mission.
ingame cut-scenes with the game engine work fine (and i can even call Ansel on them) but the post-mission(s) cinematics are the issue.

according to this steam forum linkl about the issue, it is a known problem the devs are aware of and were supposed to privide a fix soon... in mid-2020.

i am using the latest available (for me) gog build aka 1.2.5.2547 rev 54454 and the issue is still here...

so: when will we get a fix for that minor issue ? i mean: it seems to just be a damn shader, blocking the entire progress in the game...

plus, fun thing: the cinematics are available in the game installation folder, in plain MP4, and i could play them right from there with my video player, so... it's strange that my system can read them plain, but the game within itself fails to do so...

if anyone has a solution or workaround, though... i'd be glad to hear about it...

Just bought the game and found the same bug, I want to support this thread.

I saw it was more likely to happen on Win7 machines, but since there are some Win10 configurations which doesn't work as well, I prefer not to upgrade just to see some (absolutely amazing, that's for sure...) cinematics and lose all compatibility with all my others good old dosbox and similar games.
Hope a patch or at least a workaround will come soon!
whag i do not understand is the whole "shader con, figuration blocking the videos" where it is prerendered cutscenes that are available ikn the game installation folder as plain mp4 videos and that can be perfectly read on my system (i mean, as "old and obsolete as one may claim it to be", windows 7 always had been perfectly capable of decoding an mp4 encoded video flux)

so btw how do you apply "shaders" to a prerendered video file, and how on earth can you so much fail/missclick at configuring said shaders as to completly block the app (when this happen, game screen is black, though i hear the sound of the cutscene, and no possible way to skip the video and jump back to regular game: mouse and keyboard are neither responding)

and aside from that, the tutorial mission on the gameplay/realtime part of the game is working just fan, w7 or not

so it really feels half between real absentminding and sabotage...

i know blablabla win7 is obsolete it is not safe blablabla: my gaming w7 machine is cut from internet access on my lan, and i download gog offline installers from another machine for a reason so give us a break
Anybody ever figure out any workarounds or patches or anything for this? Played the game about 8 months ago when they had it playable for free for a week in November, and it worked just fine then. Managed to beat like 5 or 6 scenarios just fine. Now that I've bought the game here on GOG, I can't get past the stupid cutscenes thanks to the shader bug.

You may be angry but it's mostly your fault. The configuration clearly said minimum w10 compatible game and its as of its release. The devs never said the game would be w7 compatible. So it's your fault the above since you play on config not made for. So it's normal that the problem isn't corrected since it's on an unsupported bone.

Developers will not spend money to correct a problem on "os" that are not supported. Better to spend the tune to fix the bugs on the "os" where they are officially supported.

thank you for your brilliant and informative solution/explanation...

i'm fully aware of what i'm doing, and i would, for example, have no issue with lack of backward compatibility regarding for example newer tech exclusive to modern OS being in use (like DX12 or such);

my frustration rather comes from the fact that the gzame itself works (tutoriel with ingame engine and such) fine, and what is blocking the flow of the game is the playback of a video within the game.
and it's not some special video using some top-of-the-crop new technology ! i mean: dare to tell me that before win10, a video stream in mp4 format couldnt be played back on computer before ?
fact is: said video(s) blocking the game are perfectly playable from the os itself it i find them in the game installation folder's files; it's just a prerendered/prerecorded video file playback

i would not complain if the game engine itself would fail to launch or function correctly because of incompatibility problem.

I had dice legacy crashing for this reason at release, and yet, since a later patch, it works perfectly.

but hey... nevermind... i guess i'll have to wait until the game works on linux

Oh and btw before patiently lurk on forums to prey upon people to spit at while feeling yourself justified, did you ever read some above post like this one ?:

He speaks (dippio) that he does not want to migrate to "os" w10 because he thinks he is not as general as w7 and not concerning the game.

But this problem does not affect w10.

As I said. The developers have been very honest. Well indicated before the game comes out that it would not be w7 compatible. To say that they are saboteurs or others is shameful. You bought the game knowing it was at risk. The problem to see the error does not come from them. I don't denigrate you because you used w7 for personal reasons. You are free there. But bought a game clearly marked as config w10 mini. Then after being angry with the devs on it because it doesn't work with win7. You knowingly bought. It is your responsibility not those of the devellopeurs. So the treaties of saboteur it is rather you who insulted.
