My char is currently in the catacombs (or crypt, whatever) under the Hilbrandt cemetery. However, wherever there are no torches, I can literally not see where he is going.
Is this intentional? Is there any way to shed some light to dark places? (If there are purchasable torches or a light spell, I haven't yet seen any of them).

There's a spell you can buy called Light.

Hmm. Do you happen to know what magic school it belongs to? I only have Divine and that of Miracles, so I might have skipped it (provided it's a beginner-level spell at all).

@Sear
I can understand that, but even Diablo wasn't this dark.
Inquisitorial magic, if I remember rightly. You can talk to the priest at the back of the church repeatedly to check what he is selling. Like other sellers, his stock changes every time you check, so you will stumble across the Light spell eventually. Also pick up Levitation, for crossing deadly pits.

I have to say, the spells in this game are a bit inconvenient - they wear off too quickly. Keep mana potions on you if you are not a priest.

Thanks, I don't have Inquisitorial magic, probably that's why I've never noticed the Light spell (I tend only to look at the ones I can actually use, i.e. are displayed in bright).
Get gamma panel to adjust gamma and brightness on the fly with shortkeys
You can get spellsbooks from the priest in the church, the witch is selling a book too. I am not entirely sure, but it might be possible to find a spellbook in some rocks by the Demon Head stone. There might be an Infernal spellbook at the orc camp at the surface of the mines.
I've already discovered an Inquisitorial spellbook can be bought from the father, but I checked in the Book of Magic and seen that Light is a Student-level Inquisitorial spell, and I have no intention to spend any points on that skill, so I'll just have to use real world means to increase brightness.
Thanks, everyone.
