Among the bonus material for the game is the enhanced soundtrack, which is great. What I would appreciate is if you could play the game with said soundtrack, effectively replacing the MIDI music.

I know you can do that with ScummVM by linking to a music folder as an extra path (I used that feature extensively with Beneath a Steel Sky, I don't know about DOSBox), but it's a different story here since you have to rename the mp3 files of the soundtrack correctly (e.g. "IHNMAIMS OST - 22 Campfire Menu.mp3" needs to be renamed to "track33.mp3" in order to replace the MIDI music in the character select screen). So far, renaming the files to find the correct track number is pretty much trial & error, but I will try to find all corresponding track names.

Track names I found so far:

Introduction -> track02 (timing is off, I will keep experimenting with that)
Starting a Track -> track08, track14, track20, track26, track32
Neutral on a Track -> track06, track12, track 40
Gorrister's Exploration -> track03
Gorrister's Redemption I -> track04
Gorrister's Redemption II -> track05
Ellen's Exploration -> track15
Ellen's Redemption II -> track16
Ellen's Redemption I -> track17
34 Stingers -> track18
Benny's Exploration -> track09
Benny's Redemption -> track10
Nimdok's Exploration -> track21
Nimdok's Redemption -> track22
Nimdok's Fatal Flaw -> track23
Ted's Exploration -> track27
Campfire Menu -> track33
Torture Area -> track36

I will update this list whenever I find out more. This list is not final, so there may be some discrepancies.

Interesting! I'll definitely try this when I play the game.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
No problem! The list is growing as I keep playing, so my goal is to provide players with a full list someday.
So far, I finished four chapters and what's missing is mostly winning/losing karma music and the endgame stuff which I have yet to get to. A second playthrough will also most likely be required. Nonetheless, I'm on it! =)

+1 thanks so much for going through and doing this. An alternative you might try to get much better music is to install a soundfont, since it is midi. That's what the enhanced soundtrack sounds like to my ears anyway, midi played with a high quality sound font. just follow step 1 from this guide:

Thanks, I generally use the WeedsGM3 soundfont - highly recommendable for just about any older game with MIDI tracks. I was shocked when I noticed for the first time what difference it can make.

As far as IHNMAIMS goes, I think it is sufficient for the most part to use a decent soundfont like that, especially if you want to play it via DOSBox. Nonetheless I think it is good to know that the mp3s can also serve as an equally pleasant ingame soundtrack.

There are still some hick-ups since I have yet to find some of the track names, but it should not take too long until those are sorted out as well.
This got finished! See this thread for deets:
