Phenomenal.

Thank you so much for this!

One of my favourite games now looks even better :D
Okay now I have to ask, is there anyway to get this working with Dark Conspiracy?

NEVERMIND, I altered the bat file.

Yes :)

I have made a simple program which can make Ground Control run at any resolution. If you can, please also upload it to some more reliable sources so it doesn't get lost.

How do you do that? Don't you just hate it when people post that they found a solution without explaining how? Geeze Louise, what a tease.

Good Question it was like a year ago, but the bat file is the file used to run the game, if i remember. I think i edited it in Notepad so it would load the expansion instead.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
Well, another year later...
I made an improved resolution changer which has a few advantages:
* You don't get the resolution selection dialog on every launch.
* No launcher bat file is necessary; that means any desktop/start menu shortcuts will work as expected plus you can launch the game from Galaxy, if that's your thing.

See the included readme for installation info etc., but in short:
* revert to a vanilla no-cd gc.exe
* delete data/gcvideo.dat
* run resolution-changer-2.exe, choose your resolution
* run the game, select 800x600, exit and restart the game
Hi all

I recently got a new computer and cannot get GC to work (could play it fine on older machine). I followed the steps as detailed in fk's post and the read me to no avail.

Here are is what I tried
Installed GC (with expansion) using GOG installer v2.0.0.6
Copied GC resolution-changer-2 into installation directory
Ran the file (as administrator), selected 1600x900 resolution
Launched the game (as administrator), screen goes dark, then I get a CTD with the following error message

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: gc.exe
Application Version: 1.0.1.1
Application Timestamp: 3a19640b
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

I attempted to troubleshoot by running the gc.exe in compatability mode for WinXp/Win98 to no avail. Tried changing to lower and higher resolutions (using the resolution-changer-2) nada. Tried reinstalling a couple of times and following the steps outlined above, and once just running the game with no modifications, all to no avail. The error message is always the same.

Any suggestions?

And for our two-yearly update, we have a new version that also supports the French and German GOG versions of the game.

I haven't tried the changer just yet, but I was wondering; do it work for Dark Conspiracy and Ground Control 2?

Dark Conspiracy, yes (IIRC you just do the steps for Ground Control and Dark Conspiracy will just work). Ground Control 2, no. But that has native widescreen support (again, IIRC).
Works well, thank you for the tool.

I did however try to set it at 2560 x 1440 which is my monitor's native resolution but I get an error when I try to launch the game. It seems 1920 x 1200 is as high as it wants to go.

Any chance to make it go higher than that?

Later edit:

I did some searching and it seems games running Direct X 7.0 are limited to a maximum resolution of 2048x1536. So unless someone has a different idea or the game gets remade on a more modern API we're pretty much stuck at 1080p for workable 16x9 resolutions.

Well I tried the Resolution Changer Mark II and it worked great :) Tanks fk and too chrix to an extent :)
Anyone that can still run this game?
Can't get it working in Windows 10 with a GTX 980 TI card, anyone with a dated high-end card that can run this?
Tried with XP SP2 compatibility mode and with fk.'s resolution changer, still getting CTD and "Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll " in Windows Event Viewer.
