Looks like an old bug has reared its head again:

tutorial guy is the question mark hat dude in the item shops.
I confirm that in the original pc release talking to the tutorial guy gives this issue.
Can you quote the original message or make a screen-shot? Neogaf doesn't load for me.

Is the unwinnable battle the tutorial battle itself? or another battle later on?

The unwinnable fight is almost immediately after the first dungeon.

Oh yeah, I reached it just now. I can't die either, she does nothing but casts "stram" which just lowers my attack. Guess i'll reload save.

Since it's my first time playing i'd like to use the tutorials, i'll just save before each one then reload after going through it.

OMG this is incredibly annoying. Do I have to start over? I saved just before the battle.

Basically if you talk to any of these guys

AI logic gets messed up. This causes an early boss to not use a specific move that ends the fight, so it is impossible to continue.

Until gungho fix this, do not talk to them AT ALL.

No idea if it affects anything later in the game.

Someone on gaf reported success with changing their weapon for some reason back to the original one, but there's no telling if there any issues caused by the bug still waiting later in the game. You're probably better of just restarting to be honest, that's what I've done anyway.

Actually I'm not sure the 'tutorial guy messed up enemy logic' is the real reason at all.

Another thing i read mentioned she keeps spamming the move that reduces your attack if your attack stat is too high, however at this point in the game its only like an hour in and i never even got any other equipment to use, so there was no way to lower it.

I restarted from a save before talking to the tutorial guy, made sure i didn't talk to him, and she still kept using the same move on me when i got to her.

I closed the game and reopened and had the same thing.

The next time, it didnt happen and the fight happened as it was supposed to.

I don't know if this is what made a difference, but the time it worked normally i did not attack her - i started off with Defend and i just kept choosing that. She started off with 'Burn' and then 3 or 4 moves later she did the Zap move that ends the fight.

I did exactly what you said, I did only Defend the whole time :
- her 1st move : Burn
- her 2nd move : Combo Attack
- her 3rd move : Stram (attack debuff)
- her 4th move : Zap!

So the key seems to be not to attack. Thanks for helping me out!
