Hello

A few months ago i tried Galaxy 2, still in beta. I've had quite a few crashes, leading to achievements lost, game time not counted and even game crashes (and that was on games from GOG). To say the least I wasn't Impressed. The main interest for me was to have a one stop shop to GOG and Steam. (it did that very well :)). But, it was so badly crashing that I removed it and went back to Galaxy 1.

So the official release time is coming fast now, and my main concern is will the upgrade to v2 be mandatory or can we continue with v1 for a while ?
This question / problem has been solved by ftfyimage
I don't know if it'll be mandatory, but my Galaxy 1.2 client just told me I could update to the current 2.0 beta version, so it looks like it'll nag you once in a while.

EDIT: scratch that. I restarted it, and it forced the update to 2.0.

Just like for william. It autoupdated the client after a restart.
Have allready tried it on my tablet and I'm ok with the new launcher. But I can see alot of new threads and posts coming in 3...2...1... about the client auto updating and how much people hate it.

You need the /runWithoutUpdating command in your shortcut to Galaxy 1.2, it will not yet update to 2.0 if you use that command.

I had that command and Galaxy still forced the update to 2.0, so it looks like GOG found a way around it. I really hate what GOG's turned into. It used to be about choice, freedom, and support for old games (hence the name "Good Old Games"), but now it's almost as bad as any other digital gaming service.
Yeah it just auto updated mine, i had a look and click around, didn't like it and uninstalled it

came looking for a download link for 1.2x and there isn't one :(

And as I said above, you need the /runWithoutUpdating command in your shortcut to Galaxy 1.2.

EDIT: Many people also suggest removing C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\GalaxyUpdater. Thanks to user son9024 and others.

My good old Galaxy client upgraded to the one that throws away all your tags, so I was forced to uninstall it. Is there no way to get back the version that doesn't destroy your tags? Because I don't need some broken think that destroys my tags.

Seriously, I'm not kidding. I track everything about my library through those tags, and am not going to let some unfinished so-called "upgrade" destroy them. I would rather use no client than one that destroys my tags.

...though I'd rather use a good client than no client. Anybody have a link to an installer for the old version, preferably one that won't promptly "upgrade" itself into an unfinished unusable product?

Thanks for tip and link!! I just received the message to upgrade to 2.0 BETA (seriously, BETA!! software). I went and disables auto start on startup and added the command to a shortcut. I downloaded the 1.2 just in case GOG 2.0 somehow gets installed. I'm also no longer going to let it run all day. Close Galaxy when not in use.

Can't believe GOG is trying to force me to upgrade to 2.0 beta. I uninstalled 2.0 because it lacked a feature I needed from 1.x (my tags/categories).

Thanks. Indeed just a day after i posted the nag started and a restart updated to 2.0. the above link to reinstall and the tip about /runWithoutUpdating provided me with a way to roll back (it still nags, but i can live with that)

At present, Steam support has reached the point where referring customers to their legal department is the only response they can provide for people who are having health problems directly caused by an update they forced out of beta before it was ready 6 months ago and still refuse to even attempt to fix.

As frustrating as the Galaxy 2.0 situation is, I'm still going with GOG being much better than Steam on this one.

The /runWithoutUpdating command didn't work for me, probably because even though i had do not load at start up checked, it still did, but deleting the updater.exe works fine (and no nagging, (well mostly))
You will be forced eventually; not because old galaxy will break or stop working by itself, but because some new game and/or connection to game client or/and connection to other game stores (which Galaxy 2.0 supports) and/or some other thing we simple customers don't know about will simply not work on Galaxy 1.2 because GOG will of course not update it.
It was like that on Steam a few months ago when I reinstalled old Steam UI and stopped it from updating, but about a month ago I couldn't start some games etc. and it was because the old UI simply stopped working for those and/or new games; so I of course had to update.
So, now I won't even resist; but real, true GOG is long dead and the last nail in its coffin will be when they see how many people have stopped using Galaxy because this 2.0 broke everything and when they realize that majority of people (myself included) are returning to website to download, install and play games; they will simply shut down website downloads and force people to use Galaxy even to download game installers and that means Galaxy will stop being optional.
And that is logical because no company will invest so much money into some application/client/UI and then let people not use it if they choose so, because reasons...
I am not saying GOG will stop being DRM-free, but will definitely stop being client-free, like they used to be.
