The Steam Deck announcement & Arch-based Steam OS 3.x has amplified the improvements having been made by Linux gamers over the last 5 - 10 years.

Given the PC openness of the Steam Deck in addition to Game specific linux distributions, it would be in GOG's best interest to revisit porting GOG Galaxy to Linux. OR, work with the Linux Gaming community on making it more Linux friendly via Wine, Proton, etc.

Another consideration is folks would rather not have their games locked out due to Steam Sharing with an off-line Steam Deck. That would drive customers to purchase GOG DRM-free copies instead as part of their purchase decision.

Without a doubt, the Steam Deck will sell millions of units while many folks will likely abandon Windows 11 for Steam OS 3.x on their rigs to align with their Steam Decks. There is nothing but positive opportunity for GOG having GOG Galaxy on any Gaming Linux distro, Steam Deck, Steam OS 3.x, etc. It will result in expanding GOG's customer base and new purchases sold.

Please kindly consider porting GOG Galaxy to Linux (Arch & Debian will hit your largest demographics).

Cheers. retro

they have no skills and no motivation to do Linux port. galaxy in wine/proton is useless for obvious reason - it will see only windows versions and won't know if the game has Linux port.

they won't port it, accept it already and move on. we asked them for 5 (or already 6?) years. not a single word since. it's humiliating to keep asking them again while knowing they don't listen.
they are flat out trying to keep it working on Windows at this stage so yes... move on

They could just make any version of it 'source-available' with all rights reserved and let people clean-room reverse engineer a port for themselves if demand is so high. That way they keep their IP and don't have to put any effort in other than allow people to do what's already permitted by law.
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/release_the_gog_galaxy_client_for_linux is marked as "work in progress" so i wouldn't give up hope here.
A nice flatpak , AppImage or Snap could go a long way.
We already have packaged scummvm or dosbox applications, we have rather universal .sh scripts that unpack themselfes.
A more native linux client seems to be in reach.

There are hacks out there, that fall short.
Cloudsync is a very important feature for some folks out there and if its not available on linux, they prefer other operating systems and stores.

Sadly, that's just a forgotten tag left there since years.

The api calls are more or less straight forward. Be it download or cloud sync.
It just lacks documentation of necessary parameters like the gog-requestid for sync.
I'd take documentation instead ;)
At this point I have lost hope too, I like Galaxy too much so I'm gaming on windows, mostly. Yet, I'm happy to read these posts and see other users who still care. Unless they specifically say "no" to a Linux port, I'll keep dreaming about it.

Thank you for keeping the flame alive!

Well, if they dont bother to release a Linux version of Galaxy after all this years then i wont bother buying games anymore on GoG.

ByeBye....

It's quite sad honnestly. I am very much for GOG's mission of realeasing games without DRM, but you sometimes need the launcher to play some games online (such as No Man's sky) there is no cloud sync, and the launcher is extremely buggy and slow and often crashes.

I really like you GOG, I like you mission and values. But steam having not only official support and pushing for linux is extremely appealing.

Have the Linux GOG client detect the Steam Deck and integrate with the device, like using Proton, and compatibility settings, and a list of tested games for the device. And ease the integration outside the GOG client by adding the game to the Steam library instead, as Valve already made clear that you can add non-Steam games on the Steam Deck as well, i.e. if the GOG client would add the game for you, this would be it!
Yeah. They're losing out on absurd amounts of money by not having this available by launch of the Deck. Not everyone has had one but I dare say this is going to revolutionize GNU+Linux gaming and make a big impact on the industry as a whole.
Especially when the official dock is released and streamers start getting their hands on these.

Right now, I hardly play GoG games just because it's so much easier to use the Steam client and I've got plenty of games there.
Using the web interface is cumbersome. It's not the website, but the entire process of downloading archives, each one of the goodies, extracting everything, ensuring things are going into the right directories, and then I have to either open a file manager or look at the dozens of games in alphabetical order in my OS program menu.
Not to mention obviously missing out on all the "extra stuff", the "luxuries" that windoze users get like multiplayer.

It feels really bad as a second class citizen.

I go out of my way to buy things via GOG because I believe strongly in the idea of DRM-free and competition. If GOG goes away then there's really only Steam and, to a much lesser degree, Itch.io for PC gaming. I don't really count Humble Bundle here, and definitely not all the AAA publishers -- we can't let those take over as the standard.

Stay competitive and relevant, rather than shoot yourself in the foot some more. We've been waiting (in)patiently for many years now.

Please. If it's necessary apply for some loans to pay devs to smooth out this port. Tidy up some code and documentation and release it under some Open License. Free licenses go hand-in-hand with anti-DRM. It's kind of weird to have a proprietary client for DRM-free games. lol?

Get in contact with whoever worked on attempting to release a flatpak/et.al. for the Galaxy client and put the word out to find other volunteers. There are plenty of people who would be very happy to contribute in any way. Toss 'em some CD Projekt Red games for free as a thank you for all the hard work they did for a for-profit company, eh? If contributors aren't paid, I'm sure they'd be happy to get gratis games or good discounts. Everyone wins! lol
If they can't or don't want to develop a linux port of Galaxy, then let the community have the APIs to enhance Lutris or the Heroic Game Launcher. Obviously to buy a game is a separate thing but you could solve this with a plugin to open the website in game mode if really necessary. I can still buy GoG games on my smartphone, so I don't really care, if I'm on the go.

But to easily just install and play GoG games on my Steam Deck it would be really helpful for most people, if they don't want to tinker around.
To me I don't mind that much to add GoG games to Steam and even set pictures from steamgriddb.com, but it's still more work.
And I would still like to have the achievements and play time on Linux, Cloud saves are a nice extra.

I understand they don't have the money to do this extra thing. Then give the community the tools to do it. (You can still dream.)
Technically, you can run GoG Galaxy through Wine/Proton, though it is far from optimal. A native version would be appreciated.
