The script installer fails.

The issue: I have the game installed to another directory and have a symlink to the game folder on my SSD. Galaxy writes a new folder over the old folder with the changes, and then can't execute because the game files are not present.

Solution: Stop having Galaxy overwrite the root install folder to place a script executable inside of it, and rather write INTO the root install folder. This will keep Galaxy from overwriting symlinks to the root install folder and failing to install or uninstall DLC.

The game in question is Steelrising.

Solution from my end: I have to copy the entire game folder back to my regular drive, then run the patch utility, THEN copy it back to the SSD, when in reality this could be solved simply by not being lazy and having the update installer write the whole folder over.

I think this would be an easy fix. But do the GOG staff even see these fora?

No. I haven't seen staff here in a very long time. And even then, it was just to post an announcement.

You can either click the cog wheel in the top left and choose Report a bug, or you can open a support ticket. Either way, your feedback should reach the GOG Galaxy team. I'd probably just go for the support ticket route. I opened a bug report at the end of August and it remains completely untouched today (Last update = Date submitted).
If I understood correctly, maybe you should create a symlink to a previous (container) folder, so to make Galaxy access directly the game directory inside.

Something like this, if the full installation path (known by Galaxy) is "c:\gog-games\Steelrising", you can create a symlink of "c:\gog-games\" that will point to "z:\whathever\games\", so Galaxy will deal with the real "Steelrising" folder.

EDIT:

Also, the link is really a "symbolic-link" or maybe it is a "junction" ?

You could also try a different type of link.

Well, I don't want to make a symlink to my entire games folder, as only a few of my games reside on my SSD, so that isn't really an option there. And it is a Symlink, not a junction. I have submitted a bug report in mantis. Here's hoping they see that.
