I know this isn't strictly GOG.com related, but its gaming related, so I thought I'd ask. I've never been one to judge a game by the graphics (I love old games more than new ones most of the time) but I'm getting a new, top of the line computer soon and am looking for a couple great games which happen to have amazing graphics. I was absolutely amazed when I saw the trees and environment in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and was planning on buying it.

This is until I saw the gore. It's just too much for me. (For the record, Half-life 2 is the maximum amount of gore I can take). So I'm wondering if there are other good qualitty games that have amazingly rendered natural areas which don't have as much gore as Skyrim does. Any help here would be great!

Isn't there an option to turn off the gore? People have been putting those in games for ages, I'd be a bit shocked of Skyrim somehow managed to not do it. I guess RAGE is a contender if folks are over the graphics setting end of the world thing.

Arkham City was really great on XBox 360 and should be good on PC. It's Batman so there's nearly no gore at all (there are a few gruesome moments but even those are muted). Really if you're stuck on what to get I'd say that. Deus Ex HR is the only other big game to spring to mind that might look really good on your new rig.
Once the mod tools comes out for Skyrim I am sure someone will make a blood and gore removal mod.

As for other games with natural areas and not much gore... maybe Risen? I don't remember Risen being very gory, but then I don't think Skyrim is either so I can't say for sure. Darkest of Days has some realistic and very wide open areas that make you feel like you're back in time, but it's a shooter. Not really a gory one... does any shooting make it too violent?

Give us a moral compass here.
Section 8: Prejudice? Really nice graphics. I play it on the PS3, though. Never noticed much gore.
Try Mirror's Edge. Absolutely stunning (in a hyper-realistic,colorful way), and avoiding violence is the core gameplay.

Edit: Oh, you said 'natural area'. Forget it then, Mirror's Edge is mostly urban area.

Thanks Guys! Unfortunately, right now there's no option on Skyrim to turn off the gore. I've heard good things about Arkham City, so I might buy that. Shooting doesn't make it too violent; as I said, I've played games like Half-Life 2. But Skyrim has some pretty grusome stuff like chunks coming off of someone as you club them or the fact you can cut someone's head off and its pretty grusome. The Blood isn't as bad of a problem; its mostly the gore factor, where you see the damage done on the character model, or where there are scenes of Torture or similar things.

Mirror's Edge is actually on my wishlist right now. Looks really fantastic. I just meant its harder to find games with great natural areas now a days, so I thought I'd ask specifically about that.

Too bad they never did a remastered version of RealMyst.

Also, looking around, I found a shooter called Crysis that looks like it has some wonderful natural locations, and it seems to be sci-fi/about aliens, so the human hopefully isn't too bad. have any of you played this game?

Thanks for all your help! I can't select all of you as solutions, but I thank everyone!
I've played Far Cry, which is here, and still looks absolutely stunning. You might want to try that? It's made by the same people who made Crysis.

I've never played Crysis, but I've heard it's goodish. And looks great!

If you like shooting games, consider the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Amazing games, and the last one's a stunner graphically.

Borderlands is one of my all time favorites, but there's quite a bit of comic-book style blood, so I'm not sure if you'd like that.
Thanks!

Yeah, I don't mind shooters as long as there's still a "moral right" to the story (I don't like Grand Theft Auto, for instance) and the blood and gore isn't too bad. I'll check out far cry.
"games without a lot of Gore"?
Well, You can burn and cut as many trees as You wish in Minecraft..
Or is this about Tipper? Then anything with Ozzy Osbourne.
/dumb joke
Hmm...outdoors game, beautiful graphics, not too much gore, shooting's okay...yeah, that definitely describes Call of Pripyat. Now I want to go back and replay that. -.-
You should check out lord of the rings online. Here, I'll link some photos I took in DX 11 with a very modest ATI 6670 on "Detect Optimal Settings"

That's not even funny!

Oh...well, it's kind of funny, but in a cruel way. Like poking a stick with a sick kitten.

I second this all the way. But those screenshots really don't do it justice. Moria's environments are amazing, as well as the shire.
There's an easy fix to the gore in Skyrim right now, no need to wait for the mod tools. Here's a mod that just replaces the blood textures with transparent ones.

I can't really recommend Crysis for the squeamish. The second half of the game is all aliens, but the first half has you fighting the North Korean army. I don't remember if there's a ton of blood, but it's kind of dicey. For example, you can pick up soldiers and choke them to death, and I personally found the facial animations for this a bit disturbing.
