Bonjour et bienvenue sur GOG.com!

We're happy to announce that the site is now available in the native tongue of Molière, ‎Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Honoré de Balzac, Jules Verne, and René Goscinny! Here, at GOG.com we're always trying to make DRM-free entertainment more accesible to gamers around the world. For your convenience we'll be rolling out support for different language versions of our service, and we're starting with French - right now! On top of main page translation, french-speaking support representative is waiting to help you with your game-related problems and answer your questions.

All this is nice, of course, but we know what is the most important part for you: the games! We've already had about 240 titles playable in French in our DRM-free catalog. With today's launch we're rolling out another 30 French versions of titles such as Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, or Darkstone for a nice 270+ French-speaking games total. You can get some of them with a nice discount in our special promo, aptly named "Vive la France", that lasts until Tuesday, November 11, at 4:59AM GMT.

But that's not all. As french cuisine dictates, no meal is complete without something small and sweet for dessert! For the next 24 hours (that is until Saturday, November 8, at 7:59AM GMT), we're giving away a dear French-made classic, Little Big Adventure for FREE a game that's seeing its 20th anniversary! Remember to sign-up for your free copy and celebrate the event with us, and play one of the many memorable oldies coming from France.

Have a nice day, everyone!

salbator: French bashing all the way, bro. Stop the hate.
I'm amused that you waited 2 1/2 years to make a comment and this was it. :D

Just passing through...

Irenicus73: It could be that it has the side-effect of saying that the game is "releasing" (coming back for regular sale again) tomorrow as a result.
Yes, that's basically what I said:

VanishedOne: I suppose 'This item will be available for download on November 8, 2014' is an odd way of saying it'll return to not being free then.
I still think it's an odd way of doing that.
I think this is a bad idea. I don't object to them doing it eventually, but they haven't even finished any of the other projects they've started and now they want to go and add localization for the site?

More customers would be nice, but I think they mostly need to finish a few of the things they start so that they don't have the constant drain of cash flow to things that aren't yet bringing in any money.

And that's not a very warm welcome.

Welcome to the forums Salbator ! Grab a seat and enjoy the ride ; folks here are usually very nice in case you are wondering. Just let things sink in, it's always like that with big changes, people have some copping to do (old habits die hard and all).

No one actually knows and I doubt that we will get any more official information than the dubious one in this news post that they want to support more languages in the future :D

I wonder which specific projects you mean. Linux support? Finally there. Galaxy client? Almost there? Top classics like Grim Fandango? Within reach. Newer AAA games? Depends on the goodwill of third parties.

I wonder which projects you mean that would directly increase the profit?

Linux support is here yes, but they need to build a patcher for (large) Linux games, for example Wasteland 2. The whole thing has to be downloaded again and again because there is no patcher. This probably ties in a bit with Galaxy as well (of which status we really don't know, except for "Soon (™)" )

Edit. Of course there's different folks working on Linux stuff and website stuff.. but anyway.

Perhaps because there are already many German users and they hope to reach more new people with a French one? I really don't know, just guessing :D

true, i also know that if you compare the number of other languages to german, the germans are the ones that
seem to be able to learn dutch and other languages faster then the others.
The average dutch seems to speak many languages aswell.

I knew a few germans and they found dutch easier to learn cause it resembles our dutch language a lot..
I am very bad in talking german, bad in writing german, but i can understand almost all of it
,german dialects i cant follow , but also dialect english speaking like the dartplayers do is quite difficult to follow , they talk very fast, a true english auctionering is usually very good to follow cause they speak and pronounce all words very clear.

So i guess the germans adjust more easily.
That said , according to our national anthem were kinda related to them.

It might be that German users are a bit more anglophone than French ones. Or GOG found a a french speaking community manager first. It may just be coincidence but surely only a matter of time before spanish and german sections will appear here.

I have to admit I support this move now. Although I still feel there is a risk of fragmentation and although I will stay with the english edition just because I prefer a bigger community.

I used to make many giveaways. They were pretty simple. A single "I'm in" would usually be sufficient. Now I wonder if I would post them in the English general forum, member who do not visit it might feel unfairly treated. But duplicating the threads might just be too much work. How and in particular where would you now do giveaways?
