I just bought it on Steam 50% off without much thought as I saw it on the new releases. I hope it's as sweet as the Dreamcast game. :)
Why does it look so bad in the screenshots and require DX 10-11 at the same time?

The first level can have "thanks obama" as one of the prompts. It is as good.

Now Typing of the Dead needs to be on gog now. NOW.

It was originally a wii game that was meant to look low-fi, then ported/upgraded to the PS3, AND NOW remixed as Typing. It never looked good, but it was an intentional design choice.

Sounds pretty horrible... If it was optimized, a game looking like that would run on some Pentium IV :P

SEGA doesn't like GOG for some reason.

Holy cow! That's awesome! I wouldn't have expected Sega to do that with the new game or at all, seeing how the old game seems to have been a one-shot deal before. Still would love to see the old one get a digital re-release because of its sheer cheesiness; not to mention it was kind of fun.

So is it as good or better than the old one as far as actually typing-fighting mechanic is concerned? Are there any different game modes? What about difficulty levels? Curious minds need to know!

And just for shits and giggles: Controller support? You're totally missing the point, dude.

Nah, it also includes a fully mouse/controller functional version of HOTD: Overkill.

But why would anyone play overkill with a mouse when TYPING.

Indeed. ... To buy or not to buy... Oh, hell! I'll buy the shit out of it! ;)

Sorry, GOG. Your Halloween sales and themed new releases are nice and all, but nothing beats Typing of the Fucking Dead! Nothing! (not to mention I expect I'll be spending a nice little amount of money on the upcoming Pinball Arcade and Battle Worlds: Kronos, so I definitely am not going hog-wild on game purchases otherwise)

I tried playing a HotD game on gamepad once, it was awful.

Or maybe it was Time Crisis or something, don't remember now. I just know I don't like lightgun games on gamepad.

The original on here would be sweet, but yeah no Sega(hopefully yet, but at this point probably won't).

For anyone who has already bought this, can you see if it's DRM-free by running the program without Steam going? That'd be fantastic if it worked.

I can check later but doubt that's the case.

I don't think a single game from steam will run without the client... or at least have the steam api ddl in its install folder, etc.

Quite a few actually, though the list in the first post hasn't been updated in over a year.
Install the game, move the folder to a PC without steam, play the game. No steam needed.

There are several that do. Alpha Protocol, Binding of Isaac, Dungeons of Dredmor are the ones I remember at the moment.
Yeah, I doubt it'll run without Steam, too, but sometimes SEGA forgets. Sonic 4 Episode 1 works fine without it. If you could check, that'd be great. :-)

(Sorry I didn't do a direct reply to your post... My phone doesn't like this website, apparently, and I can't click the reply button.)
Played it for a bit. Not bad, though I do get the impression it's a fair bit easier than the original TotD. I'd wish 'hardcore' mode was available from the start - apparently you'll have to retype words if you mistype then - because 'mother****er' still isn't all that challenging. Otherwise the game is fun in its very corny grindhouse way. Though I'm trying to figure out why it takes so long to load anything (while it isn't loading). Seems like its taking its sweet time there. Hm.

It's not a real looker, which is as expected due to its Wii origin (lower quality source art assets), but it gets the job done. Aside from the mentioned odd loading times everything seems to run smoothly.

Nope. It needs Steam running to work.
