This is nothing but a sound business decision. Whatever hate for steam the GoG community harbors, it's clear that's not the case for the people who make the game. It's not cheap making a game like TW2, so CD projeckt is only leveraging to it's benefits what options it has. This is yet another, harmless, way of maximizing profit. Whilst the devs love making games, they also realize the importance of making money back on what they developed.

Whatever sales it gets from this, it can put right back into GoG and developing further, big budget DRM free games. We all win, unless meaningless TF2 items mean so much to you.
Cool, I hope they will open pre-load for Steam too.

A free GOG game is far more valuable than some decorative TF2 items.
With many recent games bundled with TF2 items, I can't say I'm very surprised. I'm okay with it though; both Valve and CD Projekt get to promote their game. It sucks if you didn't order from Steam and wanted the TF2 items, but you get something else if you ordered from GOG. Win here, win there.
It proves Valve can't sell TF2 anymore without any bonus item .

Pheace: Given some of the last few games to do it were Total War: Shogun 2, Plants vs Zombies and Mount and Blade I *really* can not agree with the 'lack of confidence' thing :)

Foxhack: Plants Vs Zombies was a huge hit before they added hats. Likewise, people who own Left 4 Dead 2 got a weapon and a hat. They're in-game bonus items that were given out for free after the game was already popular. They're still marketing ploys, but given as gifts after they were already owned by a lot of people.

Eh.
I still mentioned 2 others ... xD

Very arguable xD

Like I said. I got about ~$75 dollars back from the items from Shogun 2 :)
Granted some stuff is hardly worth anything, but I managed to sell even the Homefront thing for about $20, little more I think. So yeah xD
It's just, it's a large gamble since sometimes no one wants them and then they're worth crap. Currently with the massive number of hats, don't think I'm willing to take the risk for a game I'm not that particularly excited about. Maybe if I was willing to pay $20-30 for it, but I spent a lot already last few weeks.

Ow the people on my local language forum cry and whine about it a lot so they set up a 'vanilla' server.

Of course, the main guy plays a soldier so apparently the equalizer and a few others were suddenly considered 'vanilla'. Go figure ;)

No idea where it is but there should be some :)

You did, and I wasn't dismissing them. But you can't really put all of them together, because the ones I didn't mention had preorder items, while the other two got them after the game had a sizable userbase. (I'm not counting L4D2's preorder Bill's Hat... though I should be)

Plus, promoting a game on the BIGGEST digital games shop is just an smart idea...

Foxhack: I just find any game that includes TF2 items to be... horribly... suspicious. It's a way to ensure a moderate amount of sales on Steam.
That's already ensured.

Foxhack: It also makes me lose confidence in the quality of the game.
That's crazy. Why would you associate marketing with actual content? Do you watch a movie trailer and think you have a good idea of what the movie is going to be like?

Yes, most movie trailers already show most of the plot and the good stuff anyway. :P

It just feels like movies that give an actor that only has five minutes of screentime top billing. They shouldn't NEED to do that.
Valve and their TF2 hats nonsense :P

Nonetheless, it'll help to sell more Witcher 2 on STEAM, so that's fine.
Well... I stopped caring about TF2 long time ago. The thing that was unique about this game (I mean solid art style) is long gone and this hat-fest with trading makes me sick. I have no regrets about gog pre-order ;)

There's still that thing about Valve getting money from CD Projekt work... But realistically thinking it's not likely to shift sales from gog to steam. So I guess that's ok ;)
