What really devalues games is games being crappy. And for games like Omerta sales might actually be the only chance to make some sort of profit (it's the lowest rated game on GOG for God's sake!). :P

Hard to please? He actually liked Cannon Fodder 3. Nuff' said.

As far as I can tell him being hard to please has something to do with the fact that he has a completely different profile than all professional reviewers out there, additionally a pretty complicated one. He's a casual gamer who thinks of himself as a hardcore gamer - of course that kind of player won't like many games.

That too. That being said, while Omerta is a bad game, it's far from being the worst (Ultimate Body Blows and Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods are two examples of worse games). The ratings are more a matter of bandwagon rage.

Like I've said in a previous post, I'm not a fan of Total Biscuit but he is SPOT ON about most games he covers, so it's made me put it on my WishList.

Fred_DM: bullcrap. he is as "spot on" as any other reviewer. his opinion - and that's all he gives - is as "valuable" as anybody else's.

the game's just not good. it had potential but then again, Haemimont usually fail when they leave the shores of Tropico, so it wasn't entirely unexpected. it says a lot that GOG had to quote PC Gamer, which has pretty much the most inconsistent reviewing going on today.

the game needs to go below $10 for me to consider buying it.

if you're willing to part with some $20 now, better pre-order Age of Empires II HD.

Depends on your experience I think as we all have reviewers we trust more than others (agree with you on PCGamer -- total garbage reviews, IMO, and obviously bought and paid for by the game publishers).

With Total Biscuit, though, as an individual I think he's a bit of an ass but, as a reviewer, I trust his reviews more than most as just about every game he's hated I've hated if I've already played it and, if I've bought a game on his recommendation after watching one of his videos, I've been happy with the result.

I think the whole Omerta-Lets-Pile-On-And-Make-Sure-Nobody-Buys-This-Game going on right now is a bit shabby, especially as the developer is one of the better ones and one that treats its employees pretty well from what I hear.

Plus, they've listened to gamers' complaints and updated the AI to make it more difficult and are even giving away DLC for free. I think that's pretty decent of them, especially for a game that seems to be quite decent overall although maybe not one of the most difficult ones out there.

Personally, for what I've seen with most of the negative comments the game gets slammed because it's "not difficult enough". As the masochistic nature of much of the gamer community, who seems to want to get their ass kicked instead of just enjoying a game, is annoying to me sometimes, I think I'd find the game quite enjoyable.

Like i said, it's on my Wish List and I'll pick it up at some point when my backlog is a bit smaller :)

I actually thought I was being pretty balanced. I finished the game, so I obviously didn't think it was horrendous. However, I think I'd be misleading if I recommended anyone buy this at full price. Or 50%. It is just soooooooo mediocre.

Your idea is good but misapplied. the game already has too many bad reviews...

gog.com has best OFFERS for better quality games like Alan Wake and without DLCs which unfortunately I missed for lack of money and I think independent games should not have DLC and omerta not worth $ 20 nor with dlc included. I prefer to buy something better with them. well that's what I think.

Sad fact is that the gaming market is extremely saturated right now, and shitloads of games are available for $5 or less which are absolutely fantastic. Hell, you can get bucketloads of games for FREE on GOG forum giveaways for GOG/Steam/Desura/GG/etc. To cough up $20-40 for *any* game, really means the game has to blow your socks off, or do something really revolutionary or something.

Whenever I look at a new title right now I always ask myself: What does this have that impresses me? what makes it special? and 95% of the time, it's fucking nothing, not only that but most games are overpriced to FUCK and provide zero value to the customer, no matter what kind of game it is, some indie title or a brand new AAA blockbuster

Last year I think I bought what, 3 New full priced games on release day?
My cut off is $20 a game as I buy over 150 games a year, and it's even rare I spend that.

Agree with you most games are not worth the money developers charge and sure as hell are not worth the $60 for 99 percent of AAA games.

The only one I've seen all year that I think I 'might' pay 60 bucks for (although I won't as I have too many games already to finish) is Bioshock Infinite. Everything else I'll buy on major sale or play at my friends' houses :)

Yeah exactly! The only way to sell shitty games is to lower the price. But since most customers seem to be unable to determine in advance whether they like the game or not, the good games have to compete with the shitty games.

I mean two of my favourite games in this century have been dirt cheap on release day! Faster Than Light only cost me 9$ and I played it like 200 hours. Eador was released for 4.79$!! I played it for 500 hours and am still at it. I just see no way I am buying a mediocre game with so many problems for 3 to 4 times as much, even though I find the genre interesting.

Not that I am not complaining. I like this situation, we're are getting games like in the golden 90s again but for a fraction of the price. All I am missing now are the nice boxes with maps and stuff. I also dont see why anyone would complain about games being so cheap, I love me some best games ever for 5$. And for a 10 hour shooter or action game like Bioshock or somethingI would never pay more than 5$ anyway.

I was "fighting" for the free DLC in the forums and now we´ve got it---kalypso isn´t such bad as some of you think!
Looking forward to get Demonicon and other upcoming games of them to GOG, but it´s hard to convince them!

Yeah, man! I got Duke Nukem Forever only a few weeks after its release for 5€. It may not have been worth the 40-50€ it was released for but heck, it was some of the best 5€ I have ever spent. If it wasn't for all the promo madness I totally would have missed out on this.

Guys, I was really excited about this game and I would not mind paying 40 bucks for a decent turn-based strategy. But this game is just ridiculous. I won't pay even 20 bucks to support guys who do such things. The game is a failure.

Want to see the best way to handle a failure like that? Read this letter from Stardock and learn.

All these comments "Now it's too pricey, now it's too cheap" are silly. Honestly, people. In my opinion, Gothic series isn't very good and that's understatement but I don't keep posting about it in Gothic's announcement threads.

Promos are simply nice way how to reach customers who want to play the game but with different price-tag. Take it or leave it.
