Cold steel, colder ale!

Volgarr the Viking, a hardcore 2D side-scrolling arcade action platformer with gallons of blood, extreme bad-assery, and a daring difficulty level, is available 16% off on GOG.com. That's only $9.99 for the first week.

Rise, warrior! Bow to the 16-bit gods of the Arcade'ian Golden Age! Heed Odin's call! You are to become a mythical hero, the stuff of legends passed over goblets of ale at smelly inns, for years to come. Village elders will erect statues in your honor, Viking women will give your name to their firstborn sons, and men of the North will scream Volgarr!!! when storming enemy ranks, to instill dread in their foes' hearts. Of course, if you explode into a bloody fountain of bones and gore, that might not be the case. After all, here, now, you are still just a nameless, hairy, half-naked savage thrown against countless bloodthirsty foes. Can you become the legendary Volgarr the Viking? I dare you.

Volgarr the Viking is an awesome tribute to the most brutal and demanding arcade games of the 80s and 90s. With precise mechanics, simple controls, and challenging difficulty level, combined with pixel-perfect animation and a soundtrack worthy of a truly epic adventure, the game is sure to hold you in its mighty grip for hours on end.

Have your bloody blade ready and become the legendary Volgarr the Viking for only $9.99 on GOG.com!
Rastan! I remember playing that on my cousin's Sega Master System. Mainly the parts where the game would kick our asses and he would get pissed.

fortune_p_dawg: A little but it comes out when your skin or a bad guy's skin comes off like real life. You know how when you scrape your skin off there is blood underneath? Well, kind of like that but not like a spray more like a splash.
Hmm... Gonna look at a youtube video later, but it doesn't look like something I'd like. I live over the top stuff, like Alien Rampage .
Same here, reminded me of Rastan at the old arcades. Will wishlist for now.
Dunno if it's been asked, but do I get a Gog key if I preordered or "just" the DRM-free humble version?

From Humble-Bundle, I think you get the DRM-Free and a Steam key.
Now that's some audio.
This reminds me of Rastan.
I don't know what it is but it looks beautiful. O_O

Edit: Lol, just noticed the feature on the gamecard: "support for Dinput and Xinput controllers!" The fact that it's funny shows how sad the truth actually is.

What's wrong with that?

Maybe he's referring to the fact that many games nowadays (console ports) only support specific Xbox 360 controllers and such?

I am glad that the feature is there. It lets those of us who don't have a particular controller know that they can still play :). While I play on an Xbox 360 controller, it's good to know I can play the game with, say, a Logitech.
Wow, this really looks and feels a lot like Rastan. Even the animations and the monsters could be just ripped from it. ;)

I just saw TotalBiscuit's video and it kiled all my interest in the game

There are challenging games like Castlevania or Contra, but they are not nearly as hard (except those pseudo-3D stages in Contra, I hate those) as this. I like a good challenge, but this is just pure punishment.
Just a quick question here, may some one could confirm it...or not :)

I got the game as I was really excited about it but now I keep getting an alert from Spybot referring to the Volgarr.exe to contain Win32.nrgbot.rtk. Happens when I try to startup the game (wondering btw, that the .exe size is about 150 mb). I'd really like to know if someone could confirm this. Guess it's just a false positive but still...I wanted to ask to make sure :)

Thanks in advance,

regards

Scy

PS: Sorry for my bad english.
