100% kosher.

The Shivah, an original and mature adventure game with a New York Rabbi investigating the killing of an ex-member of his synagogue, now with highly enhanced pixel-art graphics, is available on GOG.com for only $4.99.

For any Jew, it's a great mitzvah to visit the house of a departed acquaintance during the week of mourning--the Shivah, and pay respect to the avels. But when you are a Rabbi, it's more than that: it's a duty. Especially, if the deceased unexpectedly left you a large sum of money, even though you didn't part ways in friendship. If the police suspects you had something to do with a murder, it would be meshugge not to try and clear your name. But when you are a Rabbi, it's more than that: it's a duty. Your synagogue looks up to you, after all. They may like you, or not. They may respect you, or not. They may listen to you, or not, but there must be no doubt in their minds that you are a good Jew. It's natural for any man to ponder upon the nature of morality and reassess the important things in life, when faced with a dark mystery and a gruesome death. But when you're a Rabbi, it's more than that. It's a duty. You have to face your doubts and fears before you help others to do so. Yes, life isn't easy at all. But when you are a Rabbi, it comes with some extra challenges.

The Shivah is a point-and-click title designed by Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games, one of the modern adventure game power-houses. Initially executed in Adventure Game Studio it received a lot of praise from both gamers and gaming media, despite the simplistic visuals of the original 2006 version. It was welcomed as a mature and thought-provoking experience, as well as an unique insight into the contemporary Jewish culture. Pair that with a gripping, non-linear crime story and you've got a title unlike any other. Now, seven years after its initial release, this intriguing title is making a comeback, in the so called "Kosher Edition", sporting higher resolution pixel-art graphics made from scratch to make the game look as good as we came to expect from Wadjet Eye titles. MP3 soundtrack included!

As Rabbi Russell Stone attend The Shivah of Jack Lauder, and solve the mystery of his untimely death, while facing some of your own demons, for as little as $4.99 on GOG.com.

tburger: So it's true what they say: "Yes, you can"
Now start adding vanilla versions of oldies and we are good :-D
I can see that working out well for certain games >.>
Why is this not on the FP?

Nvm it's there now -__-

Good game. I'm interested to know what the differences between this and the original release are.

There's at least one on the wishlist:

http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/thief_the_dark_project_vanilla
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/add_the_original_thief_the_dark_project_as_a_download_option_for_thief_1

Also http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/space_rangers_2_dominators_vanilla -- but all versions of that have been removed.
This is not a food you know. Kosher, silly joke.
I played both previous releases of the game and enjoyed them so much, that there's no doubt I will eventually get this new one as well. Gilbert is one of the true heirs of adventure gaming's golden age!
I wonder if buying for $3.99 on Wadjet Eye's site gives a GOG key.

Anyway, I like the updated graphics but won't currently re-buy. If they release an Android version I might.

Like I said, giving vanilla versions is all fine and dandy on paper but they won't have any of the fixes that we make for them. I wonder how folks would be able to get the vanilla version of King of Dragon Pass to run, for example :)

Besides, wouldn't you rather have us focusing on getting the AWESOME versions of games like, I don't know, Pro Pinball Timeshock with both the DOS and Windows versions? Or maybe, just maybe, something Lords of the Realms related? Hmmmm :)

edit: damnit, i did it AGAIN. Derailed a release thread. Guys, let's just enjoy the release and keep this thread on topic :)

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll answer as fast as I can :)

Leroux: Three hours is a very generous estimation, from what I remember. More like 1-2 hours, and a second playthrough would only take half an hour or so. It's shorter than any of the Blackwell games, I think. But it's worth it.
I will quote myself from another thread:

The Shivah is one of the best adventure games, period.

It is kind of short though, but IMO, that only adds to its quality. It doesn't try to prolong anything to get "X hours of gameplay", instead it tells a story which is out of the ordinary, well-written and rewarding.

It's not perfect, but I would rate it very high anyway.

Thanks, sounds like this belongs on my One-Day Game list then. And in my game library. Cheers!

Pre-orded it from the Wadjet Eye. It comes with a Steam key (without OST and original version though), but I think you might contact developers for another option.
So... Anyone see the really offensive review "BillyCrush" posted for this game?
^ Can you remove that review please - not the sort of thing I want to read.
Why there is no review moderation? Lot's of spam and flame recently...
Hi guys! I wrote a review of The Shivah: Kosher Edition for Nerdy but Flirty. You can read it here:

Wadjet Eye is one of my favorite companies putting games out there today. This is the third game of theirs I've played (after Primordia and Gemini Rue).
