Meowing. Meowing. Meowing! Meowing in your head.

The Cat Lady, a visually bewildering point-and-click adventure game with dark and violent theme and a mad, genuinely unnerving story, is available 25% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the first week!

People are imperfect. That's a fact. But just knowing it, and seeing the extent of their imperfection, makes a colossal difference. So filled with fear, and aggression we are, us humans. Always threading so close to the edge of sanity, keeping the madness at bay only by means of everyday habits and social contract. But on the inside? What kind of insane thoughts fester the mind of the people you randomly pass by on the streets? What sick ideas would you find, if you had the ability to look into the minds of your close ones? Your neighbors? Your co-workers? You'll never know. But admit it, deep inside you're terrified of what might be going on in other people's heads. The true human nature might be the greatest horror in existence. This is a game playing on those fears.

The Cat Lady uses the classic point and click mechanics to tell a story that will put your mind way outside your comfort zone. It depicts violence, fear, and psychosis in a way that's both surreal and unsettlingly realistic. Its original art style adds even further to the depressive and unhinging mood. If you like an occasional trip to the other side of sanity and you're not afraid of some explicit imagery on the way, The Cat Lady will be an experience you won't soon forget.

Sometimes, we like to challenge you to stare deep into the void. Today is one of these days. Go on, get The Cat Lady for only $7.49 on GOG.com. Play it. Stay sane. Come back for more.

Kunovski: I do have Downfall and I'm in the middle of playing it (for about a year I must admit) - I got stuck there I think and had many other games to play so I kind of put it on hold. but the release of The Cat Lady pushes me to finish it so that I can start The Cat Lady :)
Yeah, Joe makes a cameo in The Cat Lady, so it's nice to refresh Downfall before playing.
If you're stuck, PM me and maybe I can give you a hint.

Kunovski: I actually never got very far, not even into the Lodge... but the atmosphere of a town where everyone is just mad, only the girl next door, like a light beacon in the middle of darkness. I loved it :o)

Novotnus: BTW, you might want to try Downfall (also on the wishlist) from the dev that made The Cat Lady - there is a demo floating somewhere here and some nice Let's Plays on Youtube.
This?

I'm sure there's a walkthrough somewhere on the net to be found... :)

but right now I'm in the middle of playing the new Tomb Raider, The Secret World, Undying, Baldur's Gate, Gemini Rue, STALKER, ... certainly you know these situations ;)
That's the one ; )

ok ok, I won't struggle any longer :)
When I first head of this game via Novotnus's thread back in winter, I was pretty dismissive. I figured if GOG passed on it, it was because they didn't want exploitative grindhouse junk on their site, the computer game equivalent of an Eli Roth film.

But after some extensive googling and reading reviews on other sites, I think my mind may have changed. It definitely seems to dare to be different, and is the closest thing I've come across that seems to mimic the eerie, disturbing vibe the old Silent Hill games were good at generating (in writing and atmosphere rather than gameplay).

Sad personal story with a glimpse of home in the end, symbolic otherworld inhabited by strange (and sometimes weirdly beautyful) creatures, fear of the unknown - those are high points of both older Silent Hill games and The Cat Lady.
The Cat Lady lacks action sequences present in Silent Hill - which is a plus for me (any monster you can put down with a gunshot is less scary, imho) but that depends on your tastes.
Hope you'll like the game if you decide to buy it!
I was so waiting for this to appear in gog.com.
It was an instant buy for me :)
Such a wonderfully strange game that plays your emotions like a harp.
This is the best adventure game I have played in a very long time. When i first started I wasn't sure about the mechanics of the game, but for the first time I actually became emotionally involved and literally could not stop until it was finished. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something a little different.
Is there any way to play this with a mouse, you know like a regular POINT and CLICK, instead of using the keyboard ? I liked what I saw in the demo but couldn't stand those awful keyboard-only controls...

I'm affraid keyboard is the only option - but it's pretty easy to get used to after a while.
