Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!

Vrrrrooom! If you like fast cars, tight turns, and pulse-pounding races, then today's release is sure to please: Race Driver: GRID--known in the US simply as GRiD--screeches over the finish line for just $7.49 this week during its 50% off intro sale.

In GRID, you're a driver with dreams of going big: you start out driving in others' cars for money, but soon enough you'll start your own team, picking the races you want to compete in, buying the cars and equipment that you need to get the advantage over the other drivers, and traveling the world to compete. With 43 cars and 3 different regions to compete in--the US, Europe, and Japan--there's plenty to captivate adrenaline junkies. But that's not all: GRID also features an innovative "flashback" system, whereby you can rewind time a few crucial seconds to fix any sloppy driving or mistakes, avoid crashes, and generally gain the needed edge to win. With open wheel racing, demolition derbies, GT racing, there's plenty of variety in gameplay.

Real road courses such as Le Mans are in the game, as well as street circuits such as such as the Detroit and Washington D.C.. There are also a number of fictional tracks, such as street courses in San Francisco, and Milan, and Mount Haruna.

Is that enough to get your pulse pounding? Check out Race Driver: GRID this week for just $7.49--that's half off the full $14.99 price!

Kunovski: are Popes allowed to change their country? :D

anyhow, I'm really bad at racing games (I only excel in Colin McRae 2.0) but I haven't played any for so long... I'm going to buy this today :) unless someone is willing to gift it to me? *wink
I'm not really the pope. Call me Zartan, master of disguise!

grviper: Is this the game with non-reassignable controls and a complete absence of any form of tutorial mode?
avatar
Fred_DM: no, this the Codemasters racing game that many consider the best title of its kind in recent memory. also, a tutorial for a racing game? why?
Nice way of not answering to the guy's question.

"Non reassignable" controls? As in "being forced to use a qwerty keyboard" is a no-no for me :D

Provided you find the button assignments satisfactory. If not, or if you intend to use a DirectInput device, you're in for pain and third-party software.
According to Wikipedia and Google results, GRID's servers have been taken down 2 years ago. Maybe add this to the gamecard?
Wow, I have a serious decision to make... Do I sort it under G or under R in my library? I'm thinking G. :D
Thanks for the 50% off.

wasd for direction is totally unplayable! XP

Yeah, using a controller is better but it's the idea that your azerty keyboard is not worth the hassle to implement a binding procedure.
Vote for the Codemasters racing games that were pulled from GOG in 2009 to be re-released:

Colin McRae Rally 2005
TOCA Race Driver 3

I can't play racing games for shit with a controller anyway (not counting the Carmageddon games because precisions is NOT a prerequisite) so I don't see a problem here.

and I'm in for what Barry just posted. I joined right after Colin was taken off and that is a good looking racing game that ISN'T too big for my pc unlike this one which just stands there and mocks me.

So, when will this one get pulled? Because I'd like to have it on here.
I would've preferred something along the lines of the Turbo Challenge series to be released here, but GRID is nice as well.
For me, (and a few friends) the thing we enjoyed the most, was the destruction derby.

I didn't feel that the 360's control was that bad.
what is that?

no GOG installer, just a ZIP file? and 5,7 GB? that's not very nice, GOG... I guess I'll wait for a proper installer, maybe you just were in a time pressure for the release :)

The zip file extracts into an installer + 4 bin files >_<
I think they may have done this so you don't have 5 seperate files downloading in the downloader (unless that's changed recently).
