With the powers of nature in your hand and the Blue tribe following, will you become the omnipotent entity?

With great power comes great responsibility and with small price comes great value--combine these two and you’ll get a GOG.com exclusive Populous™: The Beginning, a 3D Strategy game with almighty strength, released for only $5.99 right here on GOG.com.

The third part in the series, the first one in full 3D, Populous: The Beginning places you in control of a female shaman and her tribe. You need to battle your way through 25 planets and defeat the rival Dakini, Chumara, and Matak tribes for dominion over the solar system. Grow in followers, grow in strength and unleash the earth-shattering powers to wreak havoc and control your tribesman. Build your forces, annihilate the non-believers, and finally become the ultimate almighty ruler of the Populous universe.

Execution of Populous: The Beginning is quite impressive: each scenario sports a different richly-detailed small world, and the engine accurately represents the fact that you are on a globe, with curved surfaces and an effective horizon. The creators of Populous and Dungeon Keeper packed some clever ideas, fun-to-play gameplay, 3D graphics, and sweet multiplayer into a perfect cure for gamers with a god complex. If you like real-time strategy games, this is one of the most innovative and well-designed you’ll be ever likely to play, especially when it’s only $5.99, available now on GOG.com
Oh, boy, my friend is going to piss himself when he sees this one. Thanks, GOG! ;)
I'm disappointed that this didn't come with the expansion and I know it's rare...

But I have a genuine copy if GOG need it :D

Fred_DM: 1. make another deal for all the missing expansions.
2. put them up for sale at a reduced price point (2.99 or 3.99), and offer complete editions at a price point slightly above the standard edition of the game (7.99).
3. ???
4. profit.

SimonG: Sure, the community will just love that....
Yes, there would be an uproar because of this but I'd prefer to have it this way other than don't get the expansions at all.

keeveek: Expansions were made mostly by different companies. Maybe this is why EA didn't decide to write agreement for them with GOG.com , because EA hasn't secured all the rights for them?

When EA bought Bullfrog maybe they didn't buy rights to the material that was made by other companies.
Is Alpha Centauri: Alien crossfire also from another company? What are the chances of us getting the expansions :-\

Also, it wouldn't be hard to blame EA for this, since there's too much EA hatred on GOG.com forums <: P

Don't believe so.
We didn't get the expansions for Syndicate, Wing Commander I & II, Wing Commander Privateer, or Dungeon Keeper 1, and they're all EA property, so I think it's a trend.

Why on earth they allow GOG to sell the original games but withhold the expansions is beyond me, though as I understand the Ultima expansions are here.

And I once saw an official statement saying that they can't release it for legal reasons and that they were fighting to get them but that was a long time ago and still no expansions...
From what I recall, The "Populous The Beginning" expansion was done by Bullfrog. The "Alpha Centauri" expansion was done by Firaxis. I'm sure EA bought Bullfrog and thus should have the rights to the expansion. Firaxis are still independent and may still have the rights to Alien Crossfire. Anyone know for sure?

Firaxis is a subsidiary of 2K actually but I assume you meant independent as not part of EA.

Okanehira: Not too young, 25. Probably just how I define childhood. I had an Amiga and Ataris etc.. when i was a "little kid" but from 6-13 (what i would call childhood) Stuff like Outrun/Theme Hospital/Populous/C&C95 just leave the strongest memories.
That's very young. :)

I'm 38.

That's what I meant - independent of EA :)
Looks like my guess was right: when I saw yesterday that today there would be a release from 1998, I thought it might be Populous: The Beginning, as I recalled it was released in 1998.

I played with the demo of this when I was younger, and I really enjoyed it. It's a very good release.
No expansions? Objection!
I never knew it existed. I played Populous 2 though and loved it.
Aside from ultima 7 we didn't get the expansions for Syndicate, Wing Commander I & II, Wing Commander Privateer, or Dungeon Keeper 1.
Great new release and all but...I must say:

What's with the lack of expansions here on GOG, especially EA games? Is it like a trend for GOG to be releasing incomplete versions of games? GOG did a fantastic job with the expansions for BLOOD and Ultima 7, why not do the same for other releases?

Was it licensing issues? Does the expansion belong to someone else?

An Official answer regarding this would be nice
