His name is not Mark.

Mark of the Ninja is the sneakiest one-of-a-kind stealth platformer that you’ll never see coming. How did it get here? We have no idea. The Special Edition is available for $5.99, for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, on GOG.com! If you’re just not ready for the commitment, grab the basic edition for only $4.99 and the Special Edition upgrade can be yours for another $1.66 when you’re ready for more. The 66% discount across all three items lasts until Friday, August 8, at 9:59AM GMT.

The Mark is a sacred tradition of the Hisomu ninja clan. Extracted from the leaves of a mysterious desert flower, its essence holds a great but dangerous power that will snap even the strongest of minds. Generations past have found a way to harness this gift of nature, to draw upon it in need and strike against those who threaten their way. You have volunteered to be marked with this essence. In doing so, you will become strong, an unstoppable force. You will become aware, one with your surroundings. You will become agile, neither seen nor heard. You will use this power to protect the Hisomu clan. But as your body drinks the ink marking your skin, you slowly descend into madness. And when insanity takes hold, when actions stop being your own, will you make the sacrifice to protect the clan? This is the mark of the ninja.

You won’t find a more ambitious foray into 2D stealth gameplay than Mark of the Ninja. A detailed and consistent sound and sight system, as well as non-linear level design give you the freedom to approach every objective in your own way. Whether you’re a predator relishing each kill, a phantom striking fear and disorder into enemy ranks, or no more than a gust of wind, you can expect the same level of satisfyingly challenging gameplay. Go one step further, complete challenges, and unlock additional suits and abilities to compliment your playstyle. Once you think you’ve seen it all… New Game+ awaits with a whole new set of rules to overcome. All of this gameplay, wrapped in smooth animation on beautifully drawn backdrops, is enough to make bystanders forget you’re playing a game.

Mark of the Ninja Special Edition expands your options with a completely fresh non-lethal playstyle. Don the garbs of Dosan, a ninja tattoo artist with his own bag of tricks, and discover the intrigue that lead up to the main story. Done it all? The DLC also includes detailed developer commentary (in six languages!) scattered throughout the campaign for a fresh take on the world of Mark of the Ninja.

Disappear into the shadows, delve into madness, and honor your Mark of the Ninja for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

Matruchus: I would add Edge of Space on the list. It's made by part of the team of Terraria developers. Also would add Deadlight and Endless space

Grargar: No Machines at War 3? :P
Yes that also :) Have added it. Was mostly thinking about platformers since those are on tfishes list :)

Great game so far but where is the part where the girl from The Breakin movies goes crazy and starts slicing people up?

Wait, am I confusing Mark of the Ninja with Ninja III: The Domination?

MAN, I'm always doing that!

Got to love those 80s movie tags:

"He's the Ultimate Killer. She's the Perfect Weapon." XD

tburger: The game looks nice but....by any chance don't you have Last Ninja in the stock , GOG? ;-P

JudasIscariot: Nope, sorry all out of ninjas for now :) Come back Thursday :)

Yeah, pretty unlikely, but y'know...
I got this game a while back on Steam, but since I'm not big on Steam I was always wondering if this game would ever be released on GOG. I'm a huge fan of the Tenchu series, so naturally this was a must-buy for me back then. Ninja + stealth and a side-scroller at that? Awesome. This morning I checked out GOG and boom, I was super surprised that this game was finally released on here. I bought it without a second thought and I'm so glad that I can play this on my other laptop without launching any application. This is one of my favourite PC games. Definitely recommended to stealth fans.

Silverhawk170485: Instuntbuy. --> Buying while performing a stunt.

I didn't saw the stairs coming while I was buying the game on my smartphone. I flew through the air like a ninja. ;-)
Did you get in on video for live leak? :p

Very tempted to pick this up, but...

What the trailer vid shows is using stealth to set up kills.

Is that the gist of the stealth?

Or can you also avoid lots of encounters via stealthy technique? (that to me is the attraction of stealthy gameplay - like in Thief or Sir you are being hunted, etc.)

You don't have to kill. You get points if you can get past dudes undetected. There are also ways to skip encounters altogether by taking different routes through vents or swinging above using the hook. You should probably watch a few videos on YouTube to see those mechanics.

I still say that Final Fantasy III would workout even with the crystals hint, unless they are both unrelated. Same thing with the upcoming jrpg announcement, although that could be for the Ys series.
Great release! Bought... =)
Thanks for the nice discount.

You can avoid killing :) That's what I have been trying to do on the second level and kind of making progress as you have to be very patient and observe enemy patterns or manipulate your enemies to go somewhere else so that you can get past them :)

JudasIscariot: Interesting list, very interesting....
Okay, just now realized that Warner Bros. published Bastion, so I guess that doesn't technically make it indie ... ?

Still, get in touch with Greg Kasavin. :)
Thanks for the Linux version!

Rodor: Why am I not wondering anymore seeing yet another modern platformer coming on GOG?
Wondering about what?

Instabuy, was waiting for this game to come here for a looong time :)

JudasIscariot: I don't know what your definition of a platformer actually is but I know it's not a platformer as far as I know :) I know that it being a 2D side scrolling game makes it look like some puzzle platformer but it's really a stealth game
Can you consider adding Maldita Castilla? It's a nice cross platform side-scroller, and the author released it for free! Take a look here.

Many would have charged for such well implemented game. I think it deserves to be featured on GOG.

The great thing about Mark of the Ninja is that you can complete the game without killing a single guard. There is even an end-of-stage bonus to your score if you succeed at doing that.
