The future is furry!

Inherit the Earth, a classic point-and-click adventure game set in the post-human times when animals take over, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Is there a place for humankind in Earth's future? Many would argue that the planet is ours and we will inhabit it for as long as it can nurture life. This might not be the case. In this amazing story, humans are but the stuff of legends, a thing of the past long gone. Animals are the new rulers and they starting to resemble us in many ways, taking on our merits and flaws as a species. There is much uncertainty about the fate of humans and the origins of the animals civilization, and there are many secrets to uncover. One unwilling adventurer will face all the mysteries he wouldn't even dream of as his quest to clear his good name takes him on an unexpected journey.

Inherit the Earth tells an intriguing story of mystery and magic by the means of classic point-and-click adventure gameplay. It sports excellent pixel-art graphics that makes the future world vivid and the anthropomorphic characters believable. The quest that lies before Rif of the Fox Tribe, our main protagonist, is involving and it will keep you entertained down to the last click. If you enjoy point-and-click adventures of the 1990s, make sure not to miss this original little gem.

Venture into the woodland future and witness the adventure of our furry descendants in Inherit the Earth, for only $5.99.
Ahh yes, this was that game I was thinking about when Night of the rabbit came out. Interesting, I thought it was a kinda new-ish game, it's funny what time does to your memory.
Also, I noticed that the people who are publishing this have another old adventure game they sell on their website:

Seems to be a Windows port of the Amiga version. I wonder if this is coming to GOG too, looks interesting.

I've bought it immediately, but unfortunately it's only the crappy windows version - you can't play it in real fullscreen.

Can we have the original DOS versions from the game as goodies? I would quite prefer those over this new version.

Edit: Graphics are scary like hell - what's up with the colors? My original DOS version looks a lot better via DOS box as this strange new version.

I'd say yes, but it's not easy to answer that question for that game. The developers clearly wanted a mature story with characters that appeal to adults, while the publisher kept forcing them to gear the game towards children. It ended up somewhere in the middle, but at least to me, the characters felt much more real than those in Disney movies usually do.

In general, the story is not shy of including tragic or melancholic elements (like the situation of the main character, or the question what actually happened to the humans). Thus, while it _does_ also have many funny moments, it doesn't degrade into the silly plastic worlds that Disney deems "appropriate" for kids.

The voice acting was really good and contributed a lot to the characters, but I played the German version. The English voice acting did receive praise as well AFAIR, but I never played it in English myself ... yet. ;)

I think it's similar to the book series Redwall by Brian Jacques (?) -- takes place in a fantasy kingdom but populated by animals.

Highly recommend Brian Jacques' books, btw, if you love fantasy and have never read them. They're beautifully written and have such amazing characters.

I tried the trail version from the official site. It's OK, but the whole acting and the dialogues appear a bit too childish for me.
Consider me intrigued, but ...

That doesn't sound so good. I generally hate playing games in a window; so there's no original DOS feeling mode?

Absolutely not. Remains me more of the recently released Wizardry GOLD. There's no nostalgia for me in this release. You have the choice between a small window or "fullscreen" - what means technically a window with a really big black frame. The colors seems to me like a 32 color amiga port, not like 256 VGA colors.

EDIT: I've compared it with ScummVM, and I can now tell that the colors are correct if I'm playing in a window, but become wrong if I change it to "fullscreen". Perhaps a problem with the scaling. But the missing fullscreen mode remains very annoying.

But why not just make all the characters, humans instead of animals? I don't understand making all the characters animals if they aren't animal like but human like..

LMFAO... One of the screenshots the animals are looking at these huge doors and one of them says "Look at those Knockers!"

It's not running in ScummVM?
Screenshot from the publishers homepage

Can anyone from GOG confirm that it's not possible to run the game in a true, fully scaled fullscreen mode without the window frame or huge black borders?

The original one is running in ScummVM, the version GOG's selling can't be found, so you have to handle with the little configuration options the GOG version offers.
Classic point-and-click adventure? Yes! \o/
