A spell-slinging, platform-jumping classic.

Hocus Pocus, a magical old-school platformer, is available right now on GOG.com for only $5.99.

A young would-be magician cleverly named Hocus Pocus needs your help! To become a real wizard and claim the heart of his sweetheart Popopa he needs to embark on a long and dangerous journey ordered by the chief wizard Terexin. You will control Hocus while he collects magical crystals, operates levers and elevators, discovers secret rooms, gathers treasures, and does other platformy and magicky stuff on 36 levels spread across four worlds.

Not sold on Hocus Pocus yet? Here's how the game was advertised almost 20 years ago:
"The dazzling animation in Hocus Pocus delivers unparalleled variety. After every two levels of play, graphics, background, and enemies change completely! Add multiple theme songs and multi-channel sound effects, and you have a game that's pure delight to your ears as well as your eyes!
Now, ain't that impressive?

Delve into a delightfully old-school VGA world of Hocus Pocus and destroy the evil dragons, demons and whatnot for only $5.99
Nice release! Only good memories from this one. Recommended for platform-fans!
Does this mean that we can expect more Apogee Games soon? Like BioMenace or Secret Agent Man?

Also, I am buying this on Friday when I get paid, YAY!

tinyE: This game looks A LOT like the 1st 2 Duke platformers; is it?. Put a hat on him, change some of the colors and BAM, Hocus Pocus.
Weird, I found all three games to be rather different from each other. Or do all slower paced run & gun shooters look the same to you? :)

Seriously though, for $5.99 this game should at least be bundled with Cosmo's Cosmic Adventures, Crystal Caves, and Secret Agent :)

No argument there, as much as it pains me to say anything bad about GOG. I was actually thinking a grand release of Commander Keen 1-3 and this or something along those lines. Mind you, I'm not complaining, just thinking out loud.
For those who aren't sold on the game yet, you can download the shareware episode (i.e. the demo) from 3D Realms: ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/share/1hp11.zip. You're going to have to do some DOSBox magic to use it though.

Reever: Popopa xDDDD

And come one, 5.99 for 19 MB?! =/
As somebody already said, go under 5.99...
Well if the size of the game decides price like that, this should be 3.99 so Witcher should be 2999.99 since it's about 800 times bigger.
<3 Apogee.

G-Doc: Um. No Mac, no. That's a mistake on our part. Sorry.

TheEnigmaticT: Operator error. Apologies. The operator has been flogged.

By gnomes.

EDIT: GGGGEEEEEE-DDDOOOOOOOOCCCC!
Alright, thanks for clarifying that. I can't wait to see the rest of the Apogee games here, like Realms of Chaos, Secret Agent, Crystal Caves, and others. And don't listen to those philistines, the prices better be at least $5.99. (^_-)
Philistine!?
Shit, I'm being insulted by an intellectual! :P

Good point. I do agree with Reever though that the 3,99 price point is a perfect fit for these games. The same goes for Superfrog. This game, while surely a classic, is not on par with games like Anachronox, Outcast. or the magnificent Betrayal at Krondor.. I will buy it someday, but not at this price.

kalirion: Size has NOTHING to do with it.

But a simple platformer like this one should be using the new $3.99 price point and/or be bundled with something else.
I know, but it's just about the technology and the resources needed back then. That's why I can't see how a platformer or such an old game can cost as much as game made 20 years later. Of course, there's still quality etc., but how good a game is is mostly subjective (except if there are glaring gameplay and/or plot issues).

And I agree with your last sentence there, I think that should do it.

@ Ric1987 & others: Explained what I meant with that above ^^

If it is announced that the game is being pulled I'll buy it at this price. Untill then, no.
Once upon a time, my aunt bought a computer magazine that had a cd full of demos of games bundled with it.

I've played them to death on her computer. A few of them I never forgot the names, like Prince of Persia 2 and Lemmings, but most of them slipped my mind which made it very hard to find them again.

Eventually I found Broken Sword 2 here, and now Hocus Pocus. I'm not really a part of the nostalgia bandwagon that most releases have, but these two were indeed part of my childhood, it sure feels nice to see them again.

Well, that is if you really get announced before it's getting pulled xD These things transpired pretty quickly in the past if I remember correctly?
XIII was goven plenty of notice and that's the only big pull I've been here for. I bought it instantly.

That sounded really dirty.
