Per aspera ad astra!

Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition an epic Sci-Fi turn-based strategy game of great complexity and scale, telling the story of humankind's conquest and domination over the galaxy, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.99 for the first week.

Up until now there wasn't much anyone could do. The only way to colonize other worlds was to use wormhole travel. It allowed to cover great distances, but the range of the fleets were limited to those few fixed points on the stellar map. Now, with the invention of the hyperdrive and faster-than-light travel, there's no place out of our reach among the stars. This is it. The pivotal point in the history of humankind. Our coming of age. Now it's up to us to find out if we are destined to be elevated to rule over the galaxy or reduced to slaves. A.D. 2178 - the new age of discovery and conquest. Time to face the other galactic civilizations. May we overcome them all!

Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition puts you in charge of the humankind's campaign for domination of Milky Way. In this epic turn-based strategy you're going to use all possible means to conquer the other great powers of the known universe--The Altarian Republic, The Yor Collective, The Drengin Empire, The Torian Confederation and the Arcean Empire. You can use diplomacy and cunning to divide and rule. You can focus on sheer military power to force the rivals into obedience. You can try to assimilate the others into the Terran culture, or crush their economies with your effective commerce. You can finally focus on technological advancement and conquer the stars with the might of human mind and its superior inventions. The possibilities are endless, and it's all up to you, as the leader of United Earth. The Ultimate Edition of the game contains the Altarian Prophecy expansion pack. If that's still not enough space conquest for you, there's an extensive scenario editor included!

Set out for the stars and explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate in Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition, for only $7.99 on GOG.com. The 20% discount is available until Thursday, April 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
Always pleasant to see someone new join GOG
Wish I didn't already own GalCiv 1 & 2 complete on Steam =(
Fond memories of this one. Will pick it up later. Hopefully we will see Galactic Civ 2 along with the expansions too. Difficult to go back to the first one when you have played the sequel too.
Finally I see Galactic Civilization here :)

Reminded me of playing GC when it was released on OS/2 ages ago
I hope we will see all stardock games on GOG now :D

lukew: Hmm, I loved the sequel but never played the first game. Can anyone tell me how it compares please?
Here is a comparison between GalCiv 1 and GalCiv 2: DL.

As for the release itself, I didn't expect this at all, since Stardock went Steam-only with all of their games. Really happy to see them here. I will buy GalCiv 1 again, as soon as I have the money.

Edit: Fixed a typo.

Nice! Thanks GOG.
I'm delighted to see Stardock joining the fold! I've always liked GalCiv - instabuy for me. Thanks GOG!
Damn, the one game I bought from Impulse, back when it was still Impulse. I can't justify buying it again (sorry GOG, money's a little tight right now), but I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in strategy games.

P1na: For a second, I confused this with Imperium Galactica. For a second, I was happy.
Now you reminded me about those games and my heart broke :-(
Yes, finally a chance to play with rodents in space.
Good stuff. this makes up for the er.... Nancy Drew release :D
I don't know if I'll but this one.
I suck at MOO2 and don't have any idea how to play Alpha Centauri.gotta ask, is this game more streamlined for someone who suck at 4x games?

Unfortunately I don't think so... Have you tried Endless Space or Sins of a Solar Empire? I found those moderately easy to get a hang of... maybe you just need something like that to get you onto the other games. I used to suck as well, but then got decent with Sins of a Solar Empire, and now I understand the others better. Or at least that's what I tell myself when I'm being crushed by the AI, lol. :P
I approve this message. Thanks GOG!
