Super Sonic Speedsters!

Freedom Planet, a very loopy and twisty arcade platformer where speed is king, just like the good old 16-bit times, is available 50% off for a week, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Freedom Planet is a combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragon girl and her friends against an alien attack force. It’s fast and frantic – you’ll fly through the air at high speed like a comet, bust through foes with a flurry of punches or summon motorcycles that let you ride up walls and ceilings. With colorful retro artwork, an adorable cast, and tight but varied gameplay, it’s no wonder Freedom Planet is critically acclaimed as the Sonic successor we’ve all been waiting for.

Save the world like you usually do, but this time be real quick and fancy about it, in Freedom Planet, on GOG.com. The -50% special release discount will last until Tuesday, December 9, at 10:59AM GMT.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Want to see Jesse Cox taking on the many super-sonic challenges of Freedom Planet, over at ? We've recorded the whole thing for you on our vintage VCR! Here's [url=http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom/b/596407763]part one, and here's part two of the stream archive!

What's this? A Sonic game, and no Sega yet on GOG?
Gotta love those ridiculous negative reviews.
There are obvious faults with the game and the people giving five star ratings to it are either under heavy doses of nostalgia or really big furries.
Sheesh. Ya know, anthropomorphic characters in video games was a thing long before that whole furry shit started. Next thing they'll tell me is that Robin Hood is a movie for furry lovers, too. Silly people.
How can anyone not like Sonic? You gotta go fast!

Retrostage: Please, more 2D Jump 'n Run on GOG!!!

Barry_Woodward: Braid
Cave Story+
Gunpoint
Limbo
Super Meat Boy

Some highly-desired choices I'd like to see come here for sure. (Depressing news on the SMB and [as you've posted] Braid fronts, and I cannot seem to get a response about Limbo or CS+ from their devs/pubs, but we carry on...)

Retrostage: Sadly, there will be no Linux version of the game... :-(

It's actually cheaper on GOG than on Steam. :-)
I'm still holding out for the Humble Store version, which mysteriously lists Macintosh support, that isn't listed here or on Steam. And while I don't care about that, I do care about getting both a DRM-free copy and a Steam copy. I've taken to preferring my indies on Humble, which almost always also translates to Steam, along with whatever cards, achievements, workshop, and updates (and the speed at which those updates arrive) that entails, along with the (slim) possibility of a DRM-free installer for a particular Steam-only game being added.

Given the choice between GOG and Steam, I'll generally try and go with GOG unless the price is right or the GOG version lacks too many important features. But with Humble, it often becomes a no-brainer. You might miss out on the extras on GOG, but they tend to be underwhelming anyway. Especially for newer and indie games that like to hold back on the soundtrack and might offer a sample selection instead. Meanwhile, with Freedom Planet, for instance, the Soundtrack is already available for purchase on Steam, and doesn't seem to be available here at all.

I've had Freedom Planet on my wishlist since a few weeks before it officially launched. I've held out this long, so I might as well continue to hold out for a 50%-75% sale on the Humble Store, since it's not terribly unlikely to happen this month. Having another DRM-free option finally become available for half price would otherwise be tempting, but since it took until December for that to happen, I may as well stick with the plan and keep being patient.
Why don't they offer the Freedom Planet soundtrack as DLC?

Barry_Woodward: Why don't they offer the Freedom Planet soundtrack as a separate DLC purchase?
Waiting for a reply.

The Mac support is actually kind of a fake:
Unfortunately, Windows is the only platform that's 100% supported. You can attempt to run the game on a Mac using a Windows emulator, but expect performance to be far slower than usual.

Retrostage:
I suspected as much. I've seen plenty of cases where "Linux support" translates to Wine, Adobe Air, or a port that was whipped up with ten minutes and a compiler. I don't use Mac at all, but I thought it was worth mentioning. And I figure this game was very likely made with software that only supports Windows development, so I'm not holding my breath for Linux or much else in the way of portability.
WAHOO! Bonus points for featuring Gashi-gashi's art.

This is a... *BUMPTY!* to remind y'all about the special stream with Jesse Cox starting in about 19 hours!

As for the OST - there's a good chance someone from the dev team will be present on the Twitch chat during the stream, so why don't you drop by and ask them ;-)
