Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving.

Evoland, a console-style RPG that starts off as very basic 8-bit(ish) game and evolves to become more advanced and complex as you play it, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week!

What makes a console-style action-RPG? This is a concept that has been evolving immensely over the years. So, why don't we take all that defines--and used to define--this genre and put it in one game? Why don't we make the player observe the evolution of gameplay-types, ideas, and visuals, as he progresses further in the game? Why not give him or her the chance to upgrade the game itself, from within the game? Intriguing, right? Well, that's exactly what Evoland is about.

Evoland is a concept game, but unlike many other concept games it offers much more than gameplay based on a gimmick. The story that the game tells you in its unique way is alone interesting enough to make it well-worth playing. The fact that in this single game, you're getting the whole history of console-style action-RPGs in a nutshell can be treated just as a bonus feature. In the end, though, you might find that the main drive for you is to find just one more upgrade-chest and find out how it will affect the gameworld. With many aesthetics and mechanics tightly packed together, waves of nostalgia passing as you play, and a high level of polish, this original title is something you should really check out!

Get upgrading! Start with upgrading your computer with a fresh copy of Evoland, for only $8.99 on GOG.com. The discount will last until Thursday, April 11, at 10:59AM GMT.
Can anyone tell me how long the game is, since 78 MB seems rather small for a game containing (also) 3D graphics?

johnki: So anyone played it yet? Any opinions?
Nope. Rest of my funds went to splashcash on Torment soundtrack addon ..... :/
This game looks very interesting, indeed. Will definitely try it sooner or later. It seems, if GOG could use the code and turn it "upside down", they will have the source code for their RetroMator ;-)
If the game does contain heavy element of humour, hopefully it not in the mould of Retro City Rampage. I mean just look at the name of the inventory and it's description. Certainly not taking itself too serious.

Ooh, never heard of that game sounds like it has a very interesting concept. Although I think I'll wait for some reviews first, to see if it's actually good.
Extremely interesting premise. I'll look for more info and may wishlist it.
this looks extremely interesting...can't afford it right now but wishlisted!
Does look interesting, but I would like to know approximately how long this game will last when playing. There do appear to be many interesting ideas in this game, and it does look as though the developers put a lot of time into the changing styles as the game progresses.
The size seems small at 78mb, or is that GOG missing a digit?
COOL! I definitely want to play this one. I have to finish a bunch on other game first though...
Here is a nice, yeah, "predecessor" of the game. At least it was the initial idea. It definitely makes fun :-)

Wow that is going to be the most expensive game on GOG ever
"is available 10% on GOG.com. That's only $8.99 for the first week! " so if $8.99 is 10% of the price then full price is $89.90 or is there something "off" with that statement :)

No, it means 10% of the game are available here and the remaining 90% are spread throughout other platforms.
This was a must buy for me :)

Come on guys. A truly unique game. Created by a brand new developer (they just opened middle of last year) and it's their first game. And only 9 bucks -- price of 3 lattes.

Plus, for me, they're European, which gives me even more impetus to buy it.

Already grabbed it and will post a review on my website as soon as I've finished playing it.

BTW -- it also says it's in English, French and German as well for all those bitching about how GOG rarely gets games in other languages :)
Passing .

Reviews I've read so far are giving it very high ratings:

http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/04/04/evoland-celebrates-the-growth-of-the-action-rpg-genre-in-style/

A couple of reviewers have said it's short, but then gone on to say that definitely doesn't detract from it being a good game as it really IS a good game.

I just grabbed it and will review it as soon as I'm done. Hopefully will start it tonight.
