Classic dungeon crawling awesomeness!

Anvil of Dawn, a classic DOS-era dungeon crawler with first-person perspective, sprite graphics, a vast and rich world to explore, and dozens of hours of great and motivating gameplay, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99

Every fantasy land needs a hero, it seems. There's always an evil entity of some sort that menaces the realm and its people. Surprisingly, the people never stand up to it. They prefer to wait for a group of adventurers, or even just one champion who knows the importance of wearing leg armor around archers. Inevitably someone comes to the rescue and saves the realm one spider-infested cellar at a time. Schematic as it may sound, we love to relive those adventures over and over again. Even if one dungeon looks pretty much the same as any other, you still get this rush of excitement when making your first steps on its dusty floor. It's not about originality of the concept. It's about the involving gameplay, that lets you forget about the world around you. Here's a perfect game to do just that!

Anvil of Dawn has everything you ever loved about 1990s role-playing games. It presents you with a large and diverse gameworld, full of monsters and enemies to slay, riches and powerful items to loot, quests to carry out, weapons to wield, spells to cast, and an evil overlord to challenge. It was praised for its great pacing allowing to keep the gamer entertained and intrigued, always presenting him with something new to do and achieve. The imaginative sprite-based graphics, solid gameplay mechanics, and many classic gameplay ideas make this title a shining example of well executed cRPG design that makes us call its period "the good old times". Highly recommended!

If a true old-school cRPG experience is what you're looking for, you simply can't afford to miss Anvil of Dawn, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

de_Monteynard: God damn, just this weekend I started a thread to discuss where the Dreamforge rights were and now you release this. Excellent addition!
Sadly though the D&D games they did are probably another publisher altogether (this is Ubisoft)

coldalarm: Can you play a lady in this, or do you have to be Ron Jeremy?

hunvagy: There's 6 (as I recall) Charactesr to choose from, at least one is female. And you can customize them as you see fit.
Oh, cool! I'll have to look into it then. Thanks.

I think it's more akin to Lands of Lore 1, Eye of the Beholder or Stonekeep (real-time combat without pause button, focus on traps and puzzles, linear dungeon-crawling), but it's also grid-based like MM1-5.
I think this is more akin to Ultima Underworld.but I think you and I may like it

Great game!

Too bad that I'm broke currently. Damn unexpected expenses.

Wishlisted (until next month).
The art in the front page is also pretty cool..

True, but at least it shows that Ubisoft is aware of the DreamForge games and its other IPs.

Perhaps there is another 1995 that they would like to release, nudge, nudge (hint, it's Albion).

More like if you liked Lands of Lore, you'll like this. It's real-time but surprisingly well designed, also probably one of the first cRPG's to use "mana" instead of resting to restore spells.
This game is a damn good piece of art. I have the spanish dubbed version and I´m still playing it. It´s hard but no impossible, it has beatiful pixel-sprite art (the dead animations are truly epic) and well, I think is the best old cRpg that you could still play it nowdays, and get stunned.

Give it a try,seriously,you won´t regret it ; )
The last of the great dungeon crawlers. Awesome atmosphere and some very nice level design that I can remember.
And what's seldom as fuck, a very good ending.
Got the box, will probably buy a backup copy here, if only for the encouragement.

Also, one can only hope this to mean the rest of the Event Horizon / DreamForge catalog to be in the pipeline... Chronomaster, Dusk Of The Gods, Veil Of Darkness... this kind of awesomness ? I guess Menzoberranzan and the two Ravenloft ones are in some copyright muck...

I love seeing these old RPG's resurface here. Though I've never heard of this title before I look forward to exploring it.

From Mobygames:

Choose from 5 champions of different sex, origin and... height! Even a non-human! Sadly, only 3 voices are used...
Yeah, now release Veil Of Darkness please....
Thanks for the replies!

I forgot about Lands of Lore, I like that too. I'll keep my eyes on this then.
is this closer to Lands of Lore (hated) or Stonekeep (loved)?
