The sooner aliens come to Earth, the better:

"Oh so your neighbour is a 200 pound black transvestite with a skin condition? Who the f$%# cares?? There is a goddamn alien destroyer in low earth orbit! "
It puzzles me a bit that this is such hot news. Everybody in Los Angeles already knows what a skunk Donald Sterling is, and that's unfair to skunks. Why is it all of a sudden such a subject of outrage when he has been acting just as outrageously in public for many years?

I suppose the answer is that instead of abusing women or his tenants, he got caught badmouthing a minority that fights back.

Uhm well sorta :P Whatever it takes to render these stupid human differences as utterly petty.
I think that in general terms it is fairly admirable how the community rejects racism but at the same time it is quite ominous and scary this big silence relating to black racism against white! Racism needs to be challenged wherever it may be found.
It seems someone cared just enough to ban him.
It is not news that Sterling was unfit to own or operate an NBA team. This has been common knowledge for many years.

What is news is that the NBA finally stood up to him.

I hope the Clippers do well in the playoffs, now that they are rid of this stinker.

It might boost them up.

Also, I know absolutely nothing about NBA and basketball in general.

I hope they do well for Coach Doc Rivers.

A) Can you imagine what is like to have that dumped in your lap right in the middle of the most chaotic tense time of the season in the biggest media market (or one of the biggest) on the planet!?
B) Can you believe how stoic he was about it!? I don't doubt he just wanted to start screaming, "That motherfucker!" but he kept his cool and if I ever had a team of my own he's #1 on my list of coaches.

Yeah, he's one of the best, has been for many years. He's been a wonderful coach for the team that used to be called the Cripples. Players will ignore everything else and play their guts out for him.

His son Jeremiah has been outspoken about the incident.
"One man, cannot have the power to make me feel hate towards a group, race, or another persons skin color."
"Hate the man all you want, show him no mercy if you must. But the players who put on that Jersey do it because [they] love basketball."
"Racism isn't born, it's taught. It is the refuge of ignorance and seeks to divide and destroy."

We're all Jock Tamson's bairns.

This has nothing to do with this thread and sorry to go off topic but Doc wasn't always thought of as that way. Before the Celtics acquired their big 3 of Garnett, Ray Allen to join up with Paul Pierce, Boston fans hated him and wanted him out. Even Boston's most known fan/journalist in Bill Simmons was calling for his ouster in his articles back then.
Its amazing what having actual players can do for your reputation as a coach.

Yeah, the Lakers, who used to own Los Angeles and put the Clippers in their place by embarrassing scores, are going through the same thing right now. Not Mike D'Antoni's fault when the only healthy players the management gives him can't be bothered to listen to him, and anybody who shows current ability is traded or waived so they don't have to pay him what he's worth.

Nor was it Doc Rivers's fault when he had to make a team out of the likes of Olowokandi and Szczerbiak. But the press will predictably blame the most visible figure, and in basketball that is the coach.

RabiatorG0G: Racism, xenophobia, homophobia etc. are still major issues in our oh so civilized and progressive western society, and they need to be addressed. And if it is via sports, so be it. Just look at the recent coming-outs of (team sports) athletes and what that did for the public debate (as far as I am able to tell from afar.) But sadly I am afraid you may have been offended by the coverage about gay athletes as well.
I wasn't offended, but It's just pretty sad that it is news when someone comes out. Does it really matter what color skin, gender, or sexual preference of anyone is, no, what matters is what kind of person they are. Someone that treats someone else differently because of any difference is wrong. A perfect world where that does not happen will never happen, but I would like to be wrong. I understand the reasoning behind coming out and making a big deal of racist comments, but it just makes me sad that we still have close-minded people in this world with those types of views.

As far as my original thoughts, I wish the Clippers players, coaches, and staff a good playoffs run.
Extremist political views these days in the U.S are becoming more and more prominent, I'm starting to think its better to stay out of any conversation involving politics

people are so sensitive these days
I understand their cause, but they degrade people when they may have a different message from what was understood or just trying to calm down the uproar

the op was giving an opinion on how important or unimportant was a news story, not passing a law allowing racial discrimination in any way shape or form
seriously guys, the U.S is equal as can be these days, a tiny thing like that will not cause another uprising of any kind racial discrimination

So far it has been a pretty clean thread, IMO. My original post got downrated, but it was probably deserved by my subject line. I don't care about my rep or being downrated.

Thing is, if that guy wasn't in the public spotlight, his comments would not have made the news. He could have been rich, owned a business, still made the comments and no mention of it in the news.
