My buddies and I recently got interested in Quake 3 again, and we've been having frequent LAN sessions fragging one another ( <3 Longest Yard). I've been slowly getting the hang of strafe jumping again, but rocket jumping on jump pads still takes some getting used to. In an era where games are typically (painfully) slow, playing Quake 3 with /cg_fov 130 is really a breath of fresh air.
It was thus that I went back to Quake Live again and realised how "off" it felt compared to Quake 3. Not sure how to put it though - it's not that one is more intuitive than the other, but the feel is different. Zoom distance is also severely cut, making it better off as an improved aiming aid (easier to look around with) than a shooting aid (easier to make sure your shot hits).
So, is anyone out there still playing Q3, or even Live? Do any of you happen to be professional players?
