Prepare for the horrors of the future, today.

Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, the masterfully crafted continuation to the 1988s original post-apocalyptic RPG, is available for 10% off for pre-orders for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, on GOG.com. That's $53.99 in US until September 19, when the game is expected to launch.

Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, is the direct sequel to 1988’s Wasteland, the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG and the inspiration behind the Fallout series. Until Wasteland, no other CRPG had ever allowed players to control and command individual party members for tactical purposes or given them the chance to make moral choices that would directly affect the world around them. Wasteland was a pioneer in multi-path problem solving, dripping in choice and consequence and eschewing the typical one-key-per-lock puzzle solving methods of its peers, in favor of putting the power into players’ hands to advance based on their own particular play style.

On GOG.com Wasteland 2 Digital Deluxe Edition comes complete with a free copy of Wasteland - The Original Classic and inXile's cult fantasy RPG, The Bard's Tale (both bonus games will be delivered to you as gift-able codes). All that 10% off until September 19! Please note, that after the game launches, Wasteland 2 Digital Classic Edition (basically: what you'd call a "standard" edition) will also be offered, apart from the robust Deluxe edition you can pre-order now. An upgrade pack turning the standard edition into the Deluxe version will be available as well.

$53.99 is the basic discounted price for this title in the US. Other prices will apply in different countries. If you end up paying more than than the US price ( this applies to UK, European* & Australian** gamers), we will reimburse the difference from our own pocket, giving it back to you in store credit (this is what we call the "Fair Price Package").

*PRICE UPDATE: By publisher request, we have been asked to increase the Euro price to match that of other platforms. The base price of the Deluxe Edition has increased from 44.99 EUR to 54.99 EUR (49.59 EUR with the pre-order discount). As always, we have adjusted our Fair Price Package accordingly to ensure that anyone who pre-orders at the new price will be properly compensated, which in the case of Wasteland 2, will be 8.6 EUR in store credit.

** SECOND PRICE UPDATE: There has been a change in price for Russian rubles, British pounds, and Australian dollars:
- The price in Russian rubles has been decreased from 1049 RUB to 899 RUB
- The price in British pounds has been increased from 39.99 to 44.99 GBP and we have adjusted our Fair Price Package accordingly (from 2.3 GBP to 6.8 GBP in store credit)
-The price in Australian dollars has been increased from 65.29 AUD to 68.99 AUD and we have the Fair Price Package of 3.4 AUD in store credit.

Rinu: I have to say I am rather disappointed by InXile's attitude regarding pricing.

When Kickstarter started, Brian Fargo was complaining how horrible big publishers were and wanted whole cake. Now his studio is in favor of one of very popular practice of big publishers itself.

I am glad Wasteland 2 is going to happen but this makes whole W2 backer thing a bitter-sweet experience.
Well, now that he can have the whole cake, why settle for a smaller one? :/

turbosnake: Mean publisher inXile or Deep Silver?
inXile Entertainment is the developer as well as the publisher, so there is no pressure from a publisher on the developer in this case.

Other platforms include retail. Deep Silver is covering the retail part, aren't they?
Ha, well I guess that saves my wallet 54 Euros then as this move made me go from 'hm, I might get this Deluxe version' to 'no chance in hell'. I appreciate Gog's fair price offer, but the publisher's decision to just bump up the price by 10 Euros screams excessive greediness that I'm not willing to support in any way. No W2 for me then, good, frees up my budget to get some other games. :-)

Oh sorry I have no idea about the retail part, I thought he was asking about the digital version being sold here on GOG.

If Deep Silver is handling the retail part in Europe, and has requested a retail price of €54.99 for the deluxe edition, then Deep Silver can request a change to the price of the digital versions as well. Whether the €54.99 is a fair price or not is irrelevant at this point.
Tell me something, am i confusing with another game or did this guys said that the price of the game would go down from the early acess price? Something, something, EA price was to make sure the real fans would play it and help make the game... Anyway, at one point i was really contemplating buying this game since i'm in the mood for some tactical rpg game but after this dick move from them i'll wait for the 75%, it's not like i don't enough games to play until then...
I was also thinking about byuing it, but that is far too much. I will wait for the standard edition but still wouldn't buy it at a too high price.

By the way, can we now calculate gift codes right into the prices of more expensive games (like making a game cheaper from 15€ to 5€ with a 10€ gift code) or can we only still buy cheaper games with an higher or equal gift code only?

That does seem to be the case as Deep Silver is indeed the retail publisher, also to quote from the article the following could be one of the reasons why inXile had to comply with Deep Silver's request to increase the price for digital as well:

"Deep Silver will also assist in QA testing for localized, international versions of the game."

Then again also from the article:

“Deep Silver has no nterest in interfering with our promises when it comes to DRM-free release or any future plans we may have for expansions, all our previous promises on these stand. So the only real impact for our backers is that the physical goods fulfillment is in good hands.”

Will the standard edition be more expensive for europeans as well?

Wurzelkraft: I checked the prices in some countries and the game actually became cheaper in a few of them. Will you refund the difference to users that pre-ordered it from there?
Added this to clarify my question.

Do you really need to ask? There's absolutely no indication that the Standard Edition won't be regionally priced.

What I'd like to know is in cases of crowdfundied games (i.e. pubs of retail distribution don't put their own money into the development), if the devs have no say or really don't know beforehand what the retail prices will be.
If they do, then they equally to blame for the prices we're seeing and it's far from "but the poor devs have no choice but to match the prices in digital distribution".

The Ranger Edition costs 40€ and the Standard Edition 30€ at Amazon.de. The Steam Code for the normal Version is also at the 30€ price.
So i do not see a reason to push the digital price so high.

True on both cases. So it's probably not Deep Silver that's pushing it.
It may be that the other platform is Kickstarter, even though Kickstarter isn't a store. It may also be that Steam's Deluxe price (and currently only price) is also €54.99.
But I'm just speculating and offering different thoughts on why the price was increased. I don't claim they are the correct ones, just that they are also a possibility.

Simple, because it's the Digital Deluxe version. Look at what you get with it:
Wasteland 1
Bards Tale
Wasteland 2 OST (which would be a $20 value on its own)
4 Wasteland 2 novellas, each a $6 value at Smashswords.
The concept artbook.

That's actually quite a bit of stuff for $60, don't you think? If you're just getting the game, my guess is that it won't be more then $40 when it's out on the 19th.
