A unique title like FEZ demands we did something special. This is why we decided to start a little weird contest, so you get the chance to Win a fez to play FEZ in a fez! That's right! We're giving away 20 FEZ fezes to people who pre-order the game. The game's puzzles are highly complicated, challenging, original, and complex, so we decided to keep the contest rules as plain, simple, and uninspired as possible. Here's what you need to do:

1. Pre-order FEZ here for only $8.99: www.gog.com/gamecard/fez
2. Write to contest@gog.com and tell us why you should win a fez

See the fez here.

FEZ is a puzzle-platformer like no other. First of all, its gameplay mechanics come with a perspective-changing twist, that make every stage of the game not one, but four 2D landscapes. You'll have to use that to your advantage and figure out how to make seemingly impossible jumps. That's just scratching the surface, though. There's no telling just how many complex and original puzzles have been hidden in the world of FEZ. That might be the first game in quite some time, that will make you take notes while you play, so you can crack some of the game's secrets and understand its strange languages. There's so many layers and levels to the world you'll be exploring, that you probably won't see the half of it at your first playthrough! Pair that with incredibly diverse level-design, and charming pixel-art (ummm... sorry, trixel-art) graphics, and what you get is one of the most remarkable titles of our time. Be sure not to miss it!

Pre-order FEZ today to enjoy its mind-bending perspective-twisting charm at 10% discount! Remember, the pre-order offer lasts until Wednesday, May 1, at 9:59AM GMT

mistermumbles: For comparison's sake: Just because Tom Cruise is a scientologist fruitcake doesn't mean I'll avoid movies that feature him. I'm not going to watch every one of his movies as he's been in some pretty bad stinkers, but if something to me interesting comes along like Minority Report and Oblivion I see no problem for me to go watch them.
I'll do you one better. Just because Thomas Edison was a major-league asshole doesn't mean I'm going to be boycotting all movies or eschewing anything utilizing direct current.

Coala: <blushed>
:)

JMich: But I was warned not to mess with Coala, because they wouldn't find enough left of me to bury. How can that be true for the lovely lady in the Fez?
She looks innocent.

DO NOT BELIEVE THIS. :P
The stuff people have posted in this thread make him sound kind of like the Harlan Ellison of the video game world; I guess everyone has to decide for themselves how much they let their opinion of an artist sway their opinion of the art.
Pre-ordered.

I desperately want to play this game and I want to thank Phil Fish that he choose to release it on GOG.
avatar
mistermumbles: Agreed. I don't get why so many people act like he pissed in their cereal for him running his mouth. As long as the game is fun, why should I fucking care? If I had bought games that way I don't think I'd have ever bought any games in which Peter Molyneux was involved. =P

I'm looking forward to this one.

BiosElement: Because I don't have room for eating cereal with his dick in my mouth. Insulting your customers and lashing out like a child is not acceptable. If you buy this game, you're telling him it's ok to attack people and quite frankly, act like a school yard bully.

This is his version of defending his games worth: http://images.4chan.org/v/src/1366492525347.png

^I really don't care who he is or what's wrong with him, it's simply not acceptable.

Do yourself a favor and research it a bit. I think you'll find that everyone isn't simply nuts, but that his actions and continued attitude are really that unacceptable.
I fell you guys are being way to hard on him. He is just joking. How is he raciest because he said that he doesn't like the new Japanese games. Granted that he is completely void of any tack but still he is joking, get a phunny bone.
Probably a good indie game; hoping for fantastic classic releases in May like G-Doc said, however (I'm holding him to that ;)

EDIT: Let's call them A-May-zing Releases ;)

I pre-ordered from Gog. The game interests me enough to throw $10 at it.

As to Phil. He comes off as a loud mouthed tit making unsubstantiated inflammable claims. Does anyone know if he's a politician?

At any rate, I'm not signing up to his newsletter, nor renting him to come stand behind me while I play it (hmmm is that Ubisoft's new DRM strategy?). So I'm fine with him being a guy with a severe issue thinking before talking.

I just hope getting it on Gog rather than Steam is the right choice. Retro City Rampage was a bit neutered in having GOG.COM version stamped across everywhere there was supposed to be online scoreboards, but considering Fez isn't about high scoring I think it'd be safe.

And if not. Well maybe Gog can add a Gog Highscore Spreadsheet. That's what PC's are for right? ;-)
I wonder what changed Phil Fish's mind on bring Fez to PCs?

Maybe the bit about Microsoft figuring out how to work a spreadsheet and deciding it was in their interest charging through the nose to certify a patch for release on XBLA even though the first patch released was certified and let through with an error causing save corruption?
avatar
Tsugirai: Could you please elaborate on the relevancy of that?
Well, XNA encapsulates unified tools for PC and console development - i. e. you don't have to go out of your way to develop for either, and it'll run pretty much on any average computer as long as you don't try to go extra fancy with graphical fidelity. I can only guess that Zoidberg wanted to say that not only did the developer not have any added hassle from additional hardware, but he didn't even have to put THAT much of an effort towards PC version.

Or he just... You know... Randomly quoted you :-P

DaCostaBR: I know Phil Fish has acted like a douchebag on numerous occasions,

BadDecissions: I don't. Has he ever done anything worse than "PC's are for spreadsheets?" Because the way gamers squawk about him, you'd think he was stumping for the Nazi party or something.
One time at GDC, he straight up said that all Japanese games suck.
Wishlisted! But only because I've sank a lot of money to the kickstarter this month.

$8,99 or even $9,99 is actually a very good price. I've been looking for this game for a long time and I've thought it'll be sold for at least $15.
I believe this will show Phil how good can these games sell on PC. Team Meat with Super Meat Boy! and Binding of Isaac already knows it.

mistermumbles: As long as people's odd behavior doesn't bleed over into those products I really don't give a shit what they do. I'm just looking for some fun entertainment. That's all.
Yay, a good quote from a person with Lemeza on the avatar - double awesome thing.

Anyway, i would honestly say, that even if Phil Fish was some mass murdering rapist, but the game was really good and the money from the sales wouldn't go to finance those horrible activities, i would still buy it. Because even horrible people can do good stuff, the world is not black and white and people are not 2D creatures (hey, here's a reference to the FEZ topic -_-).

I can totally support people "standing up" against shoddy practices, bad releases (recent Slender release was a bit over the top, but i can understand and support that reaction for a not good game asking money from you) and such, but if a creator of the game said dumb things, but his games are great, it's up to personal preference whenever you buy them or don't (and not play them in any illegal form either, if you are truly doing this on principle). So i still bought Ed McMillen games, even if he often talks and acts like a pompous asshole, because he's also a talanted artist and his games were fun.

No he said, that all the *modern* japanese games suck.
"I'm sorry Japanese guy! I was a bit rough, but your country's games are f*** terrible nowadays."

I didn't mean a specific game or person, just the average mentality of the industry.

Zoidberg: If I'm not mistaken, FEZ was developped in C# using the XNA framework.
avatar
Tsugirai: Could you please elaborate on the relevancy of that?
Yes. Yes I could.

...

Joking apart. C# is part of the .NET Framework and it basically means that a program developped in any of its languages can run on "any" platform (see Mono).

Also, may I add that your previous argument about consoles being "better" at games because they are designed that way is quite fallacious too: there is no functionnal difference between developpinggames for PC or developping them for consoles. Both require development tools and knowledge of the platform.

Take a look for instance at the Uncharted brand, pretty impressive for a ps3 game, eh? Well take a look at the launch titles, not that impressive I guess.

Same goes for PC.

The only advantages of consoles is their (relative) simplicity of utilization, the marketing around them and the closeness of the platform (allowing for cheaper prices, only on hardware though because the prices of the games seem always higher).

But it's fine, being a subpar PC works for phones, tablets, etc... I never denied the fact that there's a market for that, just that I find it kinda silly.

Anyway, enough off-topic. :P
