Surprise, surprise! We have one more EA classic that was tucked away, but we decided not to wait with it till the next wave of EA greatness comes by. That's how cool we are ;)

We believe we could end this newspost at the title, as we're pretty sure everyone is familiar with the SimCity franchise. But if you lived the past 20+ years under a rock and somehow you don't know what the fuss is all about let us explain:

SimCity 2000 Special Edition is the second installment, and way superior than its predecessor, of the most popular city building sim series by Maxis. You play the role of the mayor of a new municipality, starting in 1900. Your task is to expand your small village into a bustling metropolis, and manage it so the citizens are happy and willing to live in it. You're responsible for building housing districts and commercial facilities as well as power plants, streets, bus depots, and more. You need to set and raise taxes and allocate the money cleverly so the city grows.

SimCity 2000 introduced many enhancements to the series. First the view has been changed from a top-down to isometric which allows you to fully customize the terrain before you start the new city. Plenty of new types of facilities now include schools, hospitals, zoos, museums, colleges, and even prisons. Thanks to underground layer you can now build subway and utilities like water pipes under the city. Also your city is not the only one on the map, and you have to build links with other municipalities to increase trade and population. Last but not least, prepare yourself and your city for earthquakes, floods, fire, and other disasters like monster invasion, as they do like to happen--and usually at the worst possible time.

If you want to take a break from expanding your city, you can play one of many pre-made scenarios that are included in the special edition of the game. Some of those scenarios are based on real life events, like the 1989 Hurricane Hugo hitting Charleston in South Carolina or the 1991 Oakland firestorm, and some are just made up by the developer as Hollywood being attacked by a giant robot or nuclear power station major meltdown in center of Manhattan!

But that's not all: SimCity 2000 Special Edition on GOG.com also includes the SimCity Urban Renewal Kit which lets you modify the images used in-game to represent various buildings. Now you can create your own basic bitmap representing your childhood house, your school, or your favorite monument. All that and much more is available now for only $5.99.
Be cool if GOG got more Sim games!

I have to say that SC4 was my favorite out of the SC games, though. SC2K's fun but 4 provides you with so much more customization and room to experiment.

I'd LOVE to see SimIsle on here. That game is one of the most subtly harrowing games I've ever played, really.
I despise democracy on the whole. I would rather go with constitutional monarchy instead. Works pretty nice over at the Brits and the Japanese...
Constitutional monarchies are republics with a figurehead monarch that has no real political power.

In other words they ARE democracies.

GoJays2025: Having played all of the SimCity games, I personally prefer SimCity 4 the most (although Rush Hour and the Network Addon Mod are musts). Love the scale, the look, and the balance between complexity and fun. Oh and of course, as you mentioned, the amount of custom content is just ridiculous. The game community is still pretty alive and kicking,so you can still find new stuff all the time.
I made some stuff (BATs) myself back in 2004 :D
low rated
Sim City started the whole "video games for people who hate video games" thing that Gave rise to games like Angry Birds.
I'd personally rather play Angry Birds. At least there is a game in there somewhere. Screw you Will Write. I hate you.
wright i meant.

Ummm no the Queen has the right to disolve parliament at any time she can also...
Declare war
Remove a law
Remove the cabinet
Deny a law
and many more

Also a Democracy is not a Republic nor vice versa for a country to be a Democracy there is no elected government for all ideas are put to a public vote. A Republic elects a government who creates laws (supposedly in the public interest) not the differences there,
Meanwhile, in Simcity 2000 you are a tyrannical dictator who's every whim can be satisfied, including the calling in of Alien spaceships to burn your sim-slaves down to their rubbery boots! MUAHAHA! You must realize now it is useless to resist such power! :P
Really, this game is fun, no matter what the government of your particular country is! ;-D
I do hope we get SimCity 3000 in the near future. That's my personal favourite of the series.

Can the Queen still exercise these rights?

Snickersnack: Can the Queen still exercise these rights?
Yes. In fact, legally she still does: it's her signature on any routine dissolution of parliament, declaration of war, etc. And yes, she could do it on her own. But there's this little sticking point called "very bad publicity...". Canada and Australia both had dust-ups of their own when the Queen's representatives tried to put their feet down, and as far as I know about Australia, neither's done so since.

Thankfully, the effect of publicity in SimCity is limited. Riots aren't even that bad! I'd take riots over earthquakes any day.

Anything in SimCity is just peanuts compared to disasters in Afterlife.
GOG you have made me a very happy Geek!

Give me 'Sim Copter' too and I will be happier than a Frenchman who just invented a pair of self removing trousers...

Or that night I spent with a Japanese girl :D

Latter is hard to beat though...

I wouldn't know, but if LucasArts ever comes over here I'd be disappointed if I didn't get to learn.

For Canada, the Queen's rep is appointed by the Canadian government anyways, and when they didn't do what the government wanted the government shut off their power, heat, and water until they did. Canada also has the ability to change their constitution without the approval of the Queen, so if push came to shove Canada can drop the Queen's power without the need for a revolution

That's one idea but I was thinking the Original SimCity should come out before 3000.

The easiest way would be to have simcity day. Releases of SimCity, 3000 and 4.

I wouldn't mind seeing GoG's Windows build of Micropolis.
