Presenting another classic from Activision back catalogue - one of the best RTS games of all time, with great gameplay and a solid cult following, Dark Reign, is now available on GOG.com.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dark_reign_expansion]Dark Reign is a fast-paced and challenging real-time strategy game, set in a grim sci-fi universe. Unlike RTS games that came before it, Dark Reign used 3D terrain, with all the appropriate tactical advantages and disadvantages. Unlike modern RTS games, however, it is very fast and skill-intensive. Your AI-controlled opponent will keep you on your toes at all times, so fortifying your base, building a huge army and zerging it towards the enemy base just won't cut it here.

A very important feature, unique to this title, is assigning behaviors to your own units, like when they should run away or how aggressive they should be. This essentially leaves most of the mundane micro-management to your computer, where it belongs. Think you can handle this game?
Good addition, but price point for this title is too high. $9.99 maybe for both DR and DR 2 titles but not the first only.

50% off would be about right as it stands.

Activision's fault, probably. The expansion is very hard to find though.
Hmmm, a sci-fi RTS? I seem to remember ads for this one in some of my old(ish) comic books, I may have to get it. Wishlisted for now!

Roman5: Also I should note that this means more titles on GoG.com in the future from Activision which is great news :)
How is that news at all? Acti has been part of GOG and releasing titles fairly regularly here for about a year now.
Thank you SO MUCH GOG. This is one of the titles I really wanted to see here. Lost my disc ages ago and never got to try the expansion.

Not gonna lie, when I saw the front page, I said "Holy fuck!" out loud.
Will buy it .
All we need now the Imperium Galactica bundle .

Falci: You DO know Netstorm is FREE, right?

eyeball226: Yes, free in the sense that System Shock is free if I pirate it. Well done, you understand the basic concept of abandonware!
I've found NetStormHQ ages ago. They take full responsibility for the game, running the servers, patching the game and distributing it free.

Though the wikipedia page for the game states it is an abandonware and not a freeware, I don't really know if this information is to be trusted.

I mean, Activision MUST be aware of the site and what it is doing, since they've been managing the game for years now. I couldn't find any official statement on the site however.

Maybe you could jump to their forums and ask kindly, you know, without all that sarcasm you're showing me. I'm sure they'll elucidate this matter for you. Then, you can come back here and share your discoveries. ;)

There certainly used to be a disclaimer. Back when I played, it was abandonware and the general understanding was that, while they didn't have permission, Activision were 'looking the other way' as it were. It'd be great if they officially made it free through GOG, and allowed NSHQ's running of servers and writing of patches official.

It was fairly popular back in its day. But I was too engrossed in Total Annihilation at the time.
OHGODOHGODOHGOD I FUCKING LOVE YOU GOG!

This is the first I'm so excited about a new release, last time i felt this was when i discovered GOG itself for the first time.

THANK YOU!
Awesome, will buy this for sure. I loved this era of strategy games, and it's always great to play against a respectable AI.
Yep I'll pick it up when I have a bit of spare change, I have the game on CD but never had the expansion. Good, one more game on my way to saving space replacing the physical with the digital.
Instant purchase for me. Thanks GOG!

Yep, i'm in the same boat. It's nice to have a Digital replacement, To be honest i never even heard of an expansion for DR Getting this one asap.
I loved this game in its best days. But $10? Seriously, I can get World in Conflict for the same or less. Someone at Activision needs to get his head straight. Same for Ubisoft, who also require $10 for everything here, while their newer titles are available for less elsewhere.
