Many of you were wondering what the next Atari-Hasbro release will be. Some may have started losing hope after seeing no release yesterday. Well, here's to all of you who pay attention to our site not only on Tuesday and Thursday!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/icewind_dale_complete]Icewind Dale is one of the best-known role-playing games out there. It is often compared to Baldur's Gate, since both games use the same engine the same mechanics and are set in the Forgotten Realms universe. Today's release a lot more combat-oriented, but that doesn't mean you won't find a compelling story and an abundance of quests here as well. A very cool feature (powergamers rejoice!) is that you can, and should, create an entire party before you start your journey - stats, skills, portraits, descriptions, alignments, everything. Overall, a fantastic cRPG, complete with two expansion packs - Heart of Winter and Trials of The Luremaster.
I used to have the Icewind Dale: Ultimate Collection. I sold it as I wasn't pleased with the lack of character development and lessened story aspects when compared to Baldur's Gate. It's not that it was a bad game, it's certainly not, but I suppose I just love character development and was spoiled by Baldur's Gate and similar titles. Perhaps I should have treated it as a more strategic Diablo.

...but I do like the soundtrack, in support of GOG, and on the off chance of there being a HD wallpaper of some hot RPG chick, I'm willing to give it another chance! *purchased*

Damn. I wish I was Resil Blackheaven. Check out those stats!

Some advice: turn up the difficulty even to the hardest and turn all the auto-pause options on. Now, you will have tactical combat. Enjoy!
So I take it this means the end of the Tuesday/Thursday release rigidity, then? Works for me!

Thanks for another great release! Icewind Dale took a bit more work for me to get into than Baldur's Gate or Planescape (which themselves had a learning curve - I had never played P&P Dungeons and Dragons, so I had to start from square one when learning how to play these hard-core cRPG'S). Still, it was a great game once I got into it. Come to think about it, I don't really remember it so well as I thought. That must be a sign it needs to be replayed, eh? Sometime after I'm through with Planescape, anyway. ;)
I have a disk version with heart of winter and ID2 but never heard of the lure expansion. Is it worth it to rebuy it just for that. I thought i had everything but now I am not even sure if ID 2 had an expansion?

How could you do this to me GOG? There be no HD wallpaper of RPG chicks of yore, only logos and some masculine fellow fighting a dragon. Where are my Babes of the Icewind Dale series? *weeps at the travesty of it all*

The Trialmaster expansion is free and adds around 5-10 hours gameplay to the Heart of Winter expansion. You can even download it freely if you find it somewhere (but it may be better to support gog). On the other hand IWD2 never had any expansions.

Well this should be a good game to play when I get a chance. I won't wait up for the wishing well with all the folks after this game my chances are next to Nil. Plus being in Australia it is 2.20am in the morning and sleep is a good thing to get.

Good luck folks, happy gaming.
BTW, GOG you made a grammar mistake. The description of the game reads "Hack and slash with a mix of adventure in it's finest form". It should be "[...] in its finest form". Please fix that, it's really bugging me when I see big companies make mistakes like this. :)

Waking up and seeing this being the new release just made my week, thank you! GoG has been on a fantastic streak ever since getting the Atari/Hasbro deal. Good thing this has the expansions too, this should be a nice companion to baldur's gate and planescape.

They seem to have fixed the mistake Vagabond pointed out. I hope they'll fix the one in the description as well. (Preferably they'll fix it both on the site and in the installer.)
Anyone else not able to install the Icewind Dale screensave? Dunno if it's any good but would like to find out (installing on Vista).
