In a blog post, a senior Microsoft executive has warned users of Windows XP to get a move on and upgrade to shinier, newer versions of Windows.

The post, by Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Director Tim Rains, points out that after the end of official support for XP, on 08 April 2014, the company will be basically forced to pass on details of likely XP vulnerabilities to potential attackers, without providing users with the means to defend themselves.
One risk is that attackers will have the advantage over defenders who choose to run Windows XP because attackers will likely have more information about vulnerabilities in Windows XP than defenders.
The problem is, of course, that once patches stop being provided for newly-discovered vulnerabilities, any problems that are found for more recent versions may well be backwards-compatible with XP.

As details of these issues will be widely publicised, for very good reasons, there's bound to be plenty of research going on into which ones can be used to penetrate the systems of anyone still clinging on to XP.
The above is only an excerpt. Here is the source.
Of course they are going to say that to push people to cough up for shiny joke of an OS Windows 8 (get your Windows 7 copies while you can folks!!)
I predict bleak future for users of Win98.

Well you've obviously not used Win8 for any prolonged period of time.

I thought they had stopped with security updates for XP years ago.
I'll switch to a Mac before using Windows 8 again.

Incidentally, I don't recall my Win95 comp ever breaking down. I've had it for almost 20 years and it's still running as well as when I bought it. /theydontmakethemliketheyusedto

I would rather attempt to convince you into using Linux first!

The same here! My P120 win95 is still going strong. It'll be fun if it's still functioning 2015. :)
Though I've had to buy a couple new monitors to it but that's the only thing I think.
Fucking Windows 8, I'm not even going to think about moving until they bring back the old desktop and start menu, and completely remove metro from the premises.
I'm amazed that they're actually still supporting XP in the first place. It's as old now as Windows 3.0 was back when XP was new.

In any case, should I require a new PC between now and a good version of Windows, I'm just going to pirate Windows 7. Microsoft can get fucked if they think I'm actually going to use Windows 8.

Yeah, same here. I went through two CRT monitors and now have it hooked up to an LED AOC monitor I got really cheap. I added a graphic card in the late 90's (a brand new Voodoo Banshee, so I could finally play Resident Evil on it. Ah, memories...), and that's it.

I've added RAM and a HD. Haven't counted my monitors but the old current "fat" one have started flickering so soon it's time for a new again. Though I'll miss punching it to make it work. It feels so wonderfully old school when I do that. :) I guess monitors have improved over the years.

They still support NT 4.0 but you gotta pay up.

Actually what they say is very true and not only in Windows land... goes for every OS.

it's still time for who uses XP to upgrade /buy a new computer or use linux

The support for Windows XP with Service Pack 3 ends April 8, 2014
So the hackers will steal my naked pics?
I'm still surprised that support for the OS lasted as long as it did, I think XP has become the "Atari 2600" of Operating systems
