Last call! We're running out of Pots of Gold! ;-)

Heads up! Here's your last chance to take advantage of our special offer. Saint Patrick's Day has come and gone, but such a great holiday should be celebrated all week long. That's exactly what we did with our [url=http://www.gog.com/luckoftheirish]Luck of The Irish soon-to-end special build-your-own-bundle promo! For only 20 more hours you can pick 5 out of 25 remarkable games and create your very own dream bundle up to 90% off. Feeling lucky? Add a "Pot of Gold" to your selection! What's in the pot? Who knows? Maybe it's one of the games off your wishlist? Maybe it's one of the BIG titles? You can even select 5 pots at once to receive a special bundle built for you entirely by our relatively friendly GOG-Leprechauns!

This is your last call, as this fantastic offer will be available only until Friday, March 21, at 10:59AM GMT.

Don't miss out, and Sláinte!

CarrionCrow: By rigged, I mean that the person who's looking will always have the advantage over someone who isn't. There's no anticipation, no wondering what you might get. You know, and then you can go back and retry and retry and retry until it's more favorable. I don't mean that the process in and of itself is rigged, but the experience for the consumer is now since not many people are going to be thrilled with the idea of not looking when so many others are. No fairness to it. The probability is hopelessly skewed since it went from a standard spread to people undoubtedly going for more expensive items.

Edited to add a tiny smidgen of clarification.
I would just like to say that even before GOG could have removed the more desired games from the list I personally was only rolling a small number of games. I own all of IAmSinistar's list of common games and yet after my first 5 pots of gold (the only common games I was missing on GOG) I kept rolling a "this must be a gift as you own 5 of these games".
I think I got to look about 3 hours after it started and my first pot rolled Zombie Shooter 1 + 2, GeanForge, Avernum and Aqua Kitty. Since then I have re-rolled that exact set of gold pots more times then I would like, I have only seen Duke Nukem and SS2 about 3 times each. In total I only roll about 9 games, with the Zombie games in every roll and yet none of those games has ever been from IAmSinistar's "rare" list (I am only missing three of those).
Yes I have been looking, but only because I was only receiving the same message and I wanted to see what the games actually were.

I am though interested to know exactly how this was organised. Were all the games given X amount of keys (which could explain the continual reappearance of Zombie Shooters and Aqua Kitty) or are they just issued randomly? If so, were the "rare" listed games then removed or were their chances set much, much higher then others?

But I agree that this was all a gamble and I am happy with 3/5 of my pack (I already owned 2), so this was not a bad promotion really. It was just a few got some of the more desired games, but then I play the lottery every week and I never win the jackpot whist other people do, and I never let that get me down.

KaneTheGoth: Celine,
I know it must be frustrating to receive a game that you have no interest whatsoever in :( Painkiller is a fun game, so it would be a good opportunity to test the FPS genre out with.

I know there may be other reasons why you avoid FPS games, though.
I don't care how engaging the story might be, if the only way to advance is "shoot things" then I have no interest in it at all. If I do, I'll just watch an LP, but I hadn't even known this game existed until it showed up.

I certainly never expected that sort of game to be anywhere on a list "built for [me] entirely by [GOG's] relatively friendly GOG-Leprechauns!" (Even with "relatively friendly" there, I figured I might get stuck with a cheep adventure game, or something, like some of my early purchases, or those in this sale...)

Messi_is_Messiah: This promo sounded like it would be awesome, so I spent $20 on pots of gold and did not get a single game I was remotely interested in. Like people have already pointed out, all the cheaters nabbed all the popular/ more expensive games right at the beginning so people like me only got the unwanted leftovers.

JokerJun: Didn't know games were taken out as the promotion advanced [...]
That makes at least two of us. If I'd known they were actually *reducing* the "random" selection of games, then I never would have bothered buying anything from the sale at all, or I would have just purchased my friend a second gift instead of being stuck with a game that has absolutely no relation to anything I've purchased before.

My selection only said "Pot of Gold" until the point it took my money. And then I discovered it was a blasted FPS. I would have just purchased Smugglers V and gifted that (along with REUS) to my friend if I'd known how this sale actually worked (and hadn't trusted how it's worded).

Yes, it's likely carefully worded to prevent any legal liability on GOG's part for false-advertising, or something of that nature, but I'll certainly think twice before telling someone how much "better" GOG is to STEAM, unless there is a way to correct this...

I had bad luck with the Pots of Luck. But I didn't apply the cheat (didn't know it then).

However the big games promo is also not that bad. At least for those games where the discount really is big. Unfortunately GOG didn't write the original price next to it like in the other promo. A tiny bit more comfort would be nice.

Overall I'm happy about 3 new games that I want to play and another 3 I don't want to play. :)

I have a question(s).

If I let the server pick games for me (in this case all 5) will it take into account the games I presently own and not give me duplicates?

Also, are the games in the server list "All Games" or a select few?

Thank you for your help.
Attractive promo! Let's make GOG Pay What You Want next.
I just read up on St Patrick's day and what it is all about. From the quick read on wiki I read that they celebrate that the christians have wiped out their old irish culture and they are grateful for that?

Also, isn't it just an Irish holiday that does not have much to do with the rest of the world except for people that are Irish or have some Irish parents or grandparents?

Try an image search for "here for the beer" with Bing. The results are... interesting (not fascinating, that's a word I use for the... unexpected).

In the States at least (all I know) there is Corned Beef and Cabbage on sale in almost Every restaurant plus Green beer and green icing hot cross buns and green everything :} Most everyone Irish or not tend to wear something Green as it is some sort of support for Irish ...
Whatever it all started as ... now-a-days it is a holiday based marketing ploy.

So people just celebrate it as an excuse to drink? Sounds somewhat familiar...
Stupid Random Question, but what country does Smugglers V come out of? Anyone know?

Okay so why are all the planet names Russian? :P
I'm not complaining because they are all really cool sounding names, but obviously Russian ones.

BTW I am not big into games like this but I'm loving this one and anyone looking for a 5th title for this sale, Smugglers looks, sounds, and runs great! Good tutorial too for stupid people.....like me. :P

ps The portraits are a little silly if you are playing as a bounty hunter or pirate. I can't imagine Captain Kidd or Blackbeard looking to the heavens and smiling for their portrait. XD

It doesn't have an engaging story, as far as I know. If you're not into that kind of thing, it's not worth playing the game. Although I think what KaneTheGoth meant is you never know what you might enjoy until you try it. You could very well end up finding out that you actually enjoy shooting things in a fantasy world because the gameplay and mechanics are fun (and because you're well aware it has nothing to do with real world violence) . ;)

Then again, it's perfectly fine to stay away from games if you have issues with their premise and to only buy what you think you will like. Especially since Painkiller is not just a bloody FPS but also a Horror game. If you're disappointed and disgusted enough that you regret the whole puchase and you haven't downloaded any of the other games yet, I'd suggest to write a Support ticket asking GOG to revert it, or at least turn it into a gift code that you can give away. They're fairly accomodating within their possibilities, just keep in mind that they don't work on the weekend.

Me again. Is someone actually complaining about getting a free game?
