Lexor: edit: OR maybe GOG used some "wrong" patch on KB:L before release? Isn't "showflyingdead=2" setting characteristic for KB:Armored Princess? (I am not so sure about this but every other version of KB:L had "0" here and every game.ini I saw from KB:AP seemed to have "2" here)
Tis the quote that made me write "very KB:APish" in the first place. ;>

This is called "one person brainstorming session with usage of long fuse" lol :D

Er, i'm quite a dumb guy, so i didn't really get that, really.:(
But i loved the part, where mentioning Your own thought brought You to a self revelation, and then You used the same thought as a supporting proof. Nice loop there.:>

DebugMode: Microsoft also has a database of legacy games, which get automatically added when they either get drag 'n' dropped into the game explorer or started.
Although King's Bounty is surely known enough for being in the database, it focus more on the mainstream retail release, so that special distributions have to be self-registered.
Yeah, many GOGs are detected by Windows' Legacy Game Detection, giving them two (or in at least one case, three) icons in Game Explorer - one from Windows LGD and one (two) from GOG. In those cases where GOG hasn't updated from the duct-tape hack that worked on Vista, the GOG-added icon won't work and will be placed in an "Unknown" category, in those cases where GOG has added the DLL, both icons will be under "Games" but the right-click options, icon, and name will often be different (GOG's icon will always have that "glass sheen" they're so fond of using, though I have seen the LGD entry use the same icon they're most often different).

This is because GOG has assigned them different GUID numbers than what's stored in the LGD database, so LGD sees the game files being there, but doesn't see that it's already in the GE (the GUID it's looking for isn't present in the registry).

Haha :D

I've checked some other things that were new in AP (new rules of Higher Magic skill, new skills of bowman / swordsman) but so far haven't found anything buggy.... hmm.... any ideas what to check?

Is AP standalone or an expansion (so will it be here someday)?

I'm afraid i don't remember much from KB and AP. Still working on playing though them again. But so many things happen all the time [tropico4, dxhr, minecraft1.8, bloody new heating pipes being installed at my house..]
Is is possible, that since AP was based on KB's code, that GOG based their patch on a branch already 'infected' with AP changes? I mean, AB is like a "newer/better" version of KB, so it obviously fixes some issues still present in the original KB, it wouldn't really be a dumb idea, to base a patch on that code. That COULD explain some AP touches, like showflyingdead=2. Perhaps Your problem derives from that too.
I fear there is not much we can do. Perhaps KBAP's version numbering could tell us something? Unless they've reset them.
Does the build numbering reset when a new project is started on the same code?

[i'm not a programmer, i don't really know much about proper version numbering and such, forgive me if i'm throwing us off the right track here.]

It is standalone game.

Maybe. But the weird thing is latest patch for AP is like 1.2(?) when TL is 1.7. I think GOG should have seen the difference?

Lexor: I'm still waiting for spindown (or anyone else?) to get data.kfs from Steam version but it is good to know that GOG is tracking this bug also.

Scratch that, the builds reset. ;)
It was worth a shot though.
It's still possible, that GOG's KBL is based on the AP code. If You want to do some heavy digging, perhaps playing around, comparing the exe's for AP, KBL, GOGs KBL could reveal something. Gah, i'm empty. ;|

yay, thanks! :D

I think that this is the main cause of bug probably.

I've just downloaded jesskitten's file - going to compare, will reply in a few minutes.
Bad news: the only change in file was replacement italian pictures with spanish ones in map file... :/ I've even replaced gog data file with this one and started the game - reserve bug is still here...

So probably the bug is in exe? But that will be a lot harder for me to check. :(

I wonder what is the size of kb.exe on Steam and on Gamersgate? GOG's one is 13,040,128 bytes.

Steam is 13,303,808

Very small difference. Thanks for info.

Now we need Gamersgate, same version - if size will be the same as on Steam then.... :D
Well, the exe would be my first choice to check, don't know what the data.kfs file holds even.
Some hexediting skills and comparison of the exe's , the key is to find AP specific stuff. Stuff that should not be in KBL. Don't really remember the differences between the two games. ;(
