Rebellious JC Denton or death-dealing Mr 47? What kind of hero will you be today?

GOG.com is proud to announce that Square Enix is the newest heavyweight addition to our ever-growing GOG.com catalog of great games. SquareEnix is one of the biggest publishers of the modern gaming world with almost 30-years of experience and famous releases for every single existing gaming system.

Deus: Ex Game of the Year Edition and Hitman: Codename 47 are the first titles we’re releasing from Square Enix, and they're available today for $9.99 and $5.99 respectively. Both games were originally released by Eidos in 2000, but not a single drop of greatness has been lost since then. Deus Ex is a magnificent blend of remarkable storytelling, RPG customization, and action-packed shooting. With all GOG.com’s heart we recommend Deus Ex for $9.99 as one of the most captivating and rewarding games ever. EVER! Hitman, a demanding stealth/action/planning game, created a now-iconic bald assassin Mr 47. With a vague name and a vague past, Agent 47 at least has a clear goal: eliminate the target at all costs. For you, the cost of Hitman: Codename 47 is $5.99.

There are a few more heroes from SquareEnix, that deserve a special treatment from GOG.com, and we will be announcing them in coming weeks. Today, it’s time to shave your head and buy an AMT Hardballer or wear sunglasses at night and save the world from the Illuminati.

You decide what kind of hero you want to be.

SLP2000: First time DRM free, just saying.
The fan made patch for the 3D rendering had no DRM on it.
Now just release Blood Omen 1 - that thing is nearly impossible to get on PC. You hear me GOG? Or do I have to throw someone into the Abyss? :p

toyoch: -Revenant
-Deathtrap Dungeon

... does SCi games are counted as Square/Enix/Eidos games?
Revenant Deathtrap Dungeon, two games I've played only the demos back in the day. Would like to have them on GOG too. :)

SCI was Eidos owned I guess, they have Richard Burns Rally, a cult title.

SirCabbage: Actually, there was nothing wrong with the (FFVIII) port. It can be patched to work on vista and 7 64bit.

Whats better is, the patch also allows for mods, increased resolution, and windowed settings.

The port itself contained higher rez movie files then the psx version, and a copy of chocobo world which was originally only a Japan only bonus.

Add in the fact that the controls are actually pretty easy to remember (eaiser then if you emulated it) and its pretty good.

Paingiver: What about general quality? Gamespot score for PC version of FF VII is 8.0 while PSX version is 9.5
I had no complaints, It runs a lot smoother then the Psx version, and I can imagine it running smoother still without the bottleneck of reading a disk all the time.

Though, I just noticed you said "FFVII" rather then "FFVIII" So im not sure if that was a mistake or not. The PC version of 7 isnt anything special, I dont like 7 that much.
-Carmageddon
-Total Overdose
-Project Snowblind
Well, I feel a bit ambivalent about todays releases. In my mind Deus Ex is for sure one of the best games I've ever played but I already have several versions, Steam, DVD and a still shrink wrapped big box version.
I live close to IO and know one of the devs but I never been a huge Hitman fan. I remember the first game for being frustratingly difficult in the sense that you couldn't save during a mission and had to start all over on failure. I can understand their reason for doing this as it makes the game a whole lot more challenging but most people simply don't enjoy having to replay the same part over and over again. IIRC a patch included the option to save on some of the lower difficulty settings. Seem to remember that it was limited to three or something like that.
Great!!!
Hope they release the Legacy of Kain games too!
THIEF OR GTFO! :D
Yes! Thief Gold as next release would be awesome. Only played the basic version back in the day.

EdgeZombie: Huh? What happened to Thief? It was the banner a few days ago. o_o
Already have all of these games D:
My hope is that they are working on getting DDFix, widescreen, and other mandatory "patches" into the installer so you can just run the executable and play. Currently there are many issues that must be MANUALLY addressed to get that game to run on modern hardware...

When I install Thief I have to (HAVE TO) do the following...

use -lgntforce just to get the game to install correctly.
update the UsrScripts.
Apply an audio fix for onboard sound cards.
overwrite the .exe with one that I hex edited.
Apply DDFIX changes. (this solves other issues I won't list here)
Apply a fix for DROMED.
Apply a fix so the movies will run.
Apply a fix for widescreen resolutions (or any resolution over 1024x768)

Optional, but extremely useful:

Turn on high res for T1, which requires adding files and making changes to the config.
Install a fanmade sound package which updates the sounds of the game.
Install a fanmade texture pack which updates the default textures of many objects in the game.

The above 3 aren't really random, opinionated, pieces of art... they don't change the design of the game, they simply upgrade the quality of the existing... so, while I'm doubtful these would be included by GoG, I'm hopeful they are considered. They don't turn a crate into a shoebox.... they make a crate look like a more realistic crate on the game engine.

Anyway, its a fair bit of work to make these games play, and I'll certainly pay GoG cash for them if they can simply ease the installation process ;)

Welcome Square Enix! Enjoy your stay! I know I will :D
A most excellent job landing Square Enix/Eidos GOG, you guys are unstoppable. I would also like to welcome Square Enix/Eidos and their catalog to GOG, their inclusion will not go to waste. Now if we can get Final Fantasy VII, Blood Omen: The Legacy of Kain and the Thief series on GOG i'll be extra satisfied. Well, i'm off to install Deus Ex...
Thief! Now!

Patryn: Oh, and to those that are complaining about the price for "Deus Ex": What's wrong with you? 10 dollers is about as cheap as it gets (Steam release costs the same) but here it's without DRM.
Its frequently reduced on Steam to under $2. In fact I picked it up off Steam in a sale about two years ago with the sequel for about $5.

Still, as you say, it is a superb game, and well worth $10.
