I have tried using the downloader and it won't download all the necessary files and the two files it downloads are VLC media player files. When I use my broswer to download the game into a dedicated folder the I get 1 setup file that is .exe. The other files are .bin files that are associated with VLC media player. When I try to install the game using this method I get a message the .exe is not a Win32 application.

What did I just buy? I feel ripped off. I have been trying to install this game for 12 hours and with no luck and no help from gog.com. I have been buying games from STEAM for years and without a problem. I buy my first game from GOG and it is turning into a nightmare. Could someone please, please help me. Neither methods to download and install the game are working for me.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The bin files are extra setup packages that are accessed by the main exe installer during installation. VLC may be associated or linked to them so that's why they show up to you as vlc files. As for the exe, maybe you should redownload it, but keep the current copies of the bin files and try installing from the new exe again. Also, are all three files in the same folder? They must be when you install for it to work.
All three files are in the same folder. When I try to run .exe I get this message: .exe is not a Win32 application. I have Vista 64 for my OS. This game should install.
It sounds like a corrupted download. Did you re-download just the .exe file as GameRager suggested?
I'm on my 5th download attempt as I type this.
Yes, I did what GamerRager suggested....still won't install.

Have you tried downloading with your browser instead of the downloader and trying those files instead gotten that way?

In that case, what are you running for anti-virus/firewall/network security? If any of those are configured to actively scan files while you are downloading them, they could conceivably corrupt the file in the process. You might try disabling them for the duration of the download and install process. Also, what game are we talking about here?
I run Trend Micro for my virus scan. I have turned off my virus scan and firewall and I'm still having problems. I'm trying to download BG2.
Have you tried running the install as an admin (right-click > run as admin)? If that doesn't work, then I'd suggest you delete everything you have, clear your temporary internet and system files, then try the download again. If something is being corrupted during the download or install process, then there is a good chance that it was only the original download that got corrupted, the corruption is just being carried to any subsequent downloads by your temp files.
Each time I've attempted to re-download the game I would clear my temp and system files. I've also attempted to install the game as an administrator. I still get this message: .exe is not a Win32 application.

Well, I'm out of ideas, we've already hit on all of the known fixes for the dreaded "not a Win32 application" error that Vista likes to throw at people (its actually a very common problem, not related in any way to GOG or their games). As a last resort, you could try disabling UAC and DEP before running the install, though I don't really see this as a problem caused by either of them.

I have purchased many games from Direct 2Drive and Steam with no problems. Considering this is my first purchase with GOG, I'm not impressed with their delivery system. I shouldn't have to go through this nonsense in order to download a game. I don't know what else to do. I sent support a message probably 10 hours ago and haven't received a reply and nor do I expect to receive one.

Normally, you wouldn't. I've never heard of anyone experiencing that problem here before. I certainly never have, and I have more than 100 games from here.
Hello,
I have .bin files associated with VLC all the time and never had any problem at all. It shouldn't be the problem.
And you really don't have to make 4 threads with identical first posts.
I feel it's within my right to do so after nearing 14 hours trying to get the game to install.
