F1ach: Man I love Severance! If you still have it, head to the Arokhs Lair forums, some of the guys have made mods for it.

GameRager: Only mod I want right now is one to make it easier to do weapon combos.......and maybe a few singleplayer campaigns.
I think there are only campaigns, but I havent played it in years tbh, takes a bit of effort in Win 7 afaik.

IIRC there was one main combo I used with the elf sword (I think thats what it was called), it was pretty easy, fast to perform and did great damage. So I never had much of a problem with combos, I just mashed that.

Button mashers UNITE!
This should come to GOG!
I'm also having the grey screen problem. Just installed on Windows 7. None of the patches seem to be able to find the game either. I'm using an NVidea 8800 GT. Any ideas?

Try changing the install directory to one that UAC isn't designed to target?

I'm sure anything with Julie Strain is going to be expensive, what with the commercial success of "Day of the Warrior" and "Return to Savage Beach".

I was thinking more of Heavy Metal Magazine itself, not that it's a huge player in the world of printed media or anything...

I know. :P I was being a smartass.
I just installed FAKK2 v1.0 to c:\games\fakk2 and played up to the tutorial. It seems slightly jerky but otherwise okay on Win8x64 with a Radeon 7770 without tweaking.

Hmm. I tried installing it to both Program Files x86 and Program Files. Neither worked. I'll give that a shot though. Were you able to get the patches installed? Or did you not need them?

It worked up to the tutorial on the stock v1.0 install. I then patched fakk2 to v1.02 and that also worked. I ran about, got into a few conversations, and jumped off the cliff. :D

I don't know much about fakk2 I'd be happy to play up to any trouble spots. This game has been in my backlog for a while.
I have it installed works fine using a 7970 only stopped working after picking the highest resolution. After that it wouldn't work anymore reinstalled it picked the second highest res and no problems at all.

It is better to install old games outside of either Program Files folders, unless you are on Windows XP or older.

I install all my older games to e.g. C:/Games/ or D:/Games/. Even newer games, just in case (does it cause problems to e.g. user mods if they remain in Program Files?). Heck even my Steam is installed outside Program Files.

Oh right, I have Heavy Metal FAKK2 retail too somewhere. One of the many games I intended to actually install and play at some point. :)

This is fundamentally the same problem, but it sounds like the ForceWare drivers aren't recognising the game to automatically apply the OpenGL extension limit.

Try this:

Open up your FAKK 2 game directory, go into the "FAKK" directory, load up config.cfg in Notepad.

Add this to the bottom of the config file:
seta r_allowExtensions 1

Save the config file. Try the game again.

There used to be a way to manually limit the number of extensions that the NVIDIA drivers reported from the ForceWare config window, but it seems that's no longer possible without major tweaking.

No luck. Still crashes at the grey screen. I also found this on another older post, but it didn't work :

set s_milesdriver "software"
set r_ext_compress_textures"0"
set r_picmip "1"
set r_colorbits "16"
set r_texturebits "16"

I tried installing it to C:/Games, as well as trying to run it off the disc as opposed to a full install. Even fooling around with the compatibility modes, the game just won't run :( . I don't think there's anything wrong with the disc. Damn shame. Any other ideas? Otherwise I guess i'll just have to hope this comes to GoG one day.
