All classic Fallout games available FREE for 48 hours!

Holiday season is upon us! If you are a long-time GOG.com user you know well enough--or if you're relatively new to our service, you're about to learn--that we just love offering great games for free whenever it's possible. This year for instance, we've given away innumerable copies of the action-rpg gem Torchlight. Today, we're taking our gifting habit a step further. No, actually make that two steps, as we're handing out a package of three games this time around. For the upcoming 48 hours you'll be able to add [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fallout_series_giveaway_winter_promo_2013]Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics to your GOG.com collection, completely FREE of charge. That's $0.00 (or, if you prefer the currency of the nuclear wasteland, 0.00 bottle caps) for all the three classic games in the legendary post-apocalyptic RPG series, until Saturday, December 14, at 1:59PM GMT.

Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics for FREE on GOG.com video

Section updated: Don't forget about your gamer friends that may not know GOG.com yet! Sadly, for the sake of unburdening what servers we have, we had to turn off the option for gifting free games. But you can always just let them know they can sign up with GOG.com and claim a free gift of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. On top of that, when they register to our service, they'll receive all the 12 free games we add to all the newly-created accounts. That way your friends will start their adventure with GOG.com with a collection of 15 great games total already on their virtual shelves! Be kind, share the good news! :-)

Please note that all three classic Fallout titles are pending right holder change. Sadly, to the best of our knowledge, we'll be forced to remove , [url=http://www.gog.com/game/fallout_2]Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics from our offer. That doesn't mean, however, that you won't be able to download them if they are already a part of collection by then. Secure your copies today (or anytime before Saturday, December 14, at 1:59PM GMT)!

While you come to grab your free classic Fallout games, make sure to stay a while and browse through our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale selection of 600+ games discounted by 50% or more, special bundle deals up to 80% off, and daily personal deals, including the mysteriously mysterious mystery box! All that and more, now covered with our new 30-day Worldwide Money Back Guarantee, for online game-shopping safer than ever before!

We're currently experiencing server issues due to the highest traffic ever noted on GOG.com. We did anticipate much interest in our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale, as well as our Fallout 1,2, & Tactics giveaway, but the number of visits exceeded our highest expectations by far. And we mean FAR. For today, we've prepared double the number of servers that were needed to support our highest day in traffic to date, but it turned out to be not nearly sufficient. We're working on quadrupling our server supply, now.

We're terribly sorry for all the inconvenience you might encounter today, while visiting GOG.com store. If you're new to the site, rest assure that this is far from our day-to-day standards. We're working around the clock until all the problems are fixed, and everyone can enjoy everything we have to offer. If you've encountered any problems, please give it some time. Most issues will be resolved automatically, soon, as the first batch of extra servers is coming on-line right now. If you're affected by something more serious, please be assured that our support team will assist you and fix whatever needs fixing.

Again, we apologize for the user experience, that is not up to our usual standards.

Thank you so much GOG! I hope servers will work properly in few hours...
I wonder if gifts will remain valid if the games will be pulled.
So if I understood correctly:

Big publisher bullies GOG, so GOG decides to fight back by being even more awesome to their userbase. Way to go, GOG. This is yet another resonating FU from GOG to middlemen's DRM, IP-whoring, and otherwise being major assholes. And there's an additional message attached: "Don't fuck with GOG". Masterful, really. Good riddance to any company that refuses to deal with the most respectful (and thus respectable) game retailer I've ever encountered.

jalister: It's a shame if they are removed. The early Fallout games really belong here. Zenimax has several games that actually belong on GOG.

At the very least...
Arena (the full CD version)
Daggerfall
Morrowind and expansion
Doom series
Hexen series
Heretic series

Bethesda could really earn points by adding...
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Doom 3

I wouldn't realistically expect Skyrim to be included though.

Fever_Discordia: Don't forget Battlespire and Redgard!
Also Bethesda's old Terminator games, especially Future Shock.

GabiMoro: The Fallout's might be free for us but GOG still has to pay something for every copy "sold".
Unless the actual rights holder for the distribution teamed up for this with GOG. They're losing the license anyway, so this might be more of the actual distributor giving Bethesda the middle finger for getting their IP than GOG doing so. After all, it's the distributor's right to sell the games where they want for the price they feel like.
Are the freebiess the reason for the broken website?
If yes, wouldn't it be much easier on the system if GOG just added the games to every account automagically instead of thousands of users hammering on the webservers?

Very true. We don't know what's really going on, so kudoz to Interplay as well, just in case.
Smart that you moved these off the front page now. Still, looks like the word is out. I'm guessing the authentication server is being hammered by all the new accounts signing up to get this. Didn't have that problem during Insomia, at least not that I noticed.

I'm wondering if this wouldn't have been better on the last day of the sale, to drive more traffic here at this point. Certainly enough folks were chomping at the bit for the Xmas sale itself, even without this giveaway.

Whatever the case, I do hope this sale is a huge success for GOG!

Yes its the reason and no it won't be easier, more server power and cost to easier supply free games? there is no money in that.

This is almost certainly the case. It's not really GOG giving Bethesda the middle finger, it's Interplay. They lost the big legal battle and they've completely lost the Fallout rights. So in a sour grapes moment that we all get to benefit from, they are now trying to devalue the license as much as they possibly can. It's the last thing they can do to Bethesda.

I don't really care about the whole "Bethesda is evil" thing, but this move on Interplay's part is very, very funny. :^D

And it's working quite well. Also, if anyone hasn't been able to get the games because of the crashed servers, I nabbed 5 packs before the big wave of traffic pulled through. Just shoot me a pm.

Where's the money in thousands of users creating a DDoS-like server-load by trying to add the games to their accounts and thus blocking out people who actually want to buy games compared to GOG just adding the game to every account with some SQL-command, or whatever they're using?

And I hope the onlineshop and the actual files aren't located on the same servers...

This is probably the first time I'm ever sad to see games being given out for free, since this most likely means that GOG hasn't had any luck in their negotiations with Zenimax.

I was hoping that the rights transfer would be a golden opportunity for GOG to not only convince Zenimax to keep the Fallout games on the service, but to also release Bethesda and id classics on GOG as well. Unfortunately, if this promo is any indication, they haven't even had any luck of achieving the former.

Oh well, even if the chances of success are slim, I hope GOG will continue trying to negotiate with them.

Will gift codes still be valid after the Fallout games are out of the gog lineup?
Fantastic offer for anyone that still doesn't have them, hopefully they won't disappear from the catalogue for good and GOG would strike a deal with Zenimax / Beth for distributing them in the future.
