All classic Fallout games available FREE for 48 hours!

Holiday season is upon us! If you are a long-time GOG.com user you know well enough--or if you're relatively new to our service, you're about to learn--that we just love offering great games for free whenever it's possible. This year for instance, we've given away innumerable copies of the action-rpg gem Torchlight. Today, we're taking our gifting habit a step further. No, actually make that two steps, as we're handing out a package of three games this time around. For the upcoming 48 hours you'll be able to add [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fallout_series_giveaway_winter_promo_2013]Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics to your GOG.com collection, completely FREE of charge. That's $0.00 (or, if you prefer the currency of the nuclear wasteland, 0.00 bottle caps) for all the three classic games in the legendary post-apocalyptic RPG series, until Saturday, December 14, at 1:59PM GMT.

Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics for FREE on GOG.com video

Section updated: Don't forget about your gamer friends that may not know GOG.com yet! Sadly, for the sake of unburdening what servers we have, we had to turn off the option for gifting free games. But you can always just let them know they can sign up with GOG.com and claim a free gift of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. On top of that, when they register to our service, they'll receive all the 12 free games we add to all the newly-created accounts. That way your friends will start their adventure with GOG.com with a collection of 15 great games total already on their virtual shelves! Be kind, share the good news! :-)

Please note that all three classic Fallout titles are pending right holder change. Sadly, to the best of our knowledge, we'll be forced to remove , [url=http://www.gog.com/game/fallout_2]Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics from our offer. That doesn't mean, however, that you won't be able to download them if they are already a part of collection by then. Secure your copies today (or anytime before Saturday, December 14, at 1:59PM GMT)!

While you come to grab your free classic Fallout games, make sure to stay a while and browse through our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale selection of 600+ games discounted by 50% or more, special bundle deals up to 80% off, and daily personal deals, including the mysteriously mysterious mystery box! All that and more, now covered with our new 30-day Worldwide Money Back Guarantee, for online game-shopping safer than ever before!

We're currently experiencing server issues due to the highest traffic ever noted on GOG.com. We did anticipate much interest in our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale, as well as our Fallout 1,2, & Tactics giveaway, but the number of visits exceeded our highest expectations by far. And we mean FAR. For today, we've prepared double the number of servers that were needed to support our highest day in traffic to date, but it turned out to be not nearly sufficient. We're working on quadrupling our server supply, now.

We're terribly sorry for all the inconvenience you might encounter today, while visiting GOG.com store. If you're new to the site, rest assure that this is far from our day-to-day standards. We're working around the clock until all the problems are fixed, and everyone can enjoy everything we have to offer. If you've encountered any problems, please give it some time. Most issues will be resolved automatically, soon, as the first batch of extra servers is coming on-line right now. If you're affected by something more serious, please be assured that our support team will assist you and fix whatever needs fixing.

Again, we apologize for the user experience, that is not up to our usual standards.

Still remember the massive complaints regarding Insomnia Promo. More like people were bitter for missing out free stuff. Now they're giving the entire series for free. How awesome is that?
Three free games? Niiiiiice!!!
Awesome, I had the first two Fallouts but now I have Fallout Tactics and my 200th game!
Thank you very much GOG, 3 of 5 games of my wishlist is gone, and now only Brotherhood of Steel and New Vegas are missing. In short, thanks for the christmas present! :)
Thank you, GOG!

cpucrust: Thanks for the free Fallout titles GOG! As a veteran classic game player, I'm embarrassed to say that I've never played a Fallout title. Now I have no excuse not to play Fallout.
The closest to a Fallout game was watching friend play Fallout 3 on a Sony PS3.
You're not alone, mate. :) Twenty years of gaming, and I've yet to clock a single hour on a Fallout game. But like you said, there's no excuse at all now for not playing the series. *looks sadly at her evergrowing game backlog* Who needs sleep anyway?
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics for free? Surely not. But yes.

I offer sincere thanks for this. I haven't played any of the fallout series and I am excited that now I have the first two.

Though, I did wonder about this giveaway, if it indeed did tell that there may be a problem with the licensing situation regarding these titles, and this was the reason gog was compelled to offer the lot. And yep, my excitement was a bit tempered somewhat when I read just that in the post.

Let me just say that it really, really, is not nice of Bethesda and Zenimax if they yank these games from GOG.com. The original Fallout games are as much spiritual, cultural, or whatever you want to call it; cornerstones of gog.com's lineup as any games here. They belong here. And if they take them away in the name of Valve or whoever the hell, then that is really really not good.

So it is definitely unfortunate that GOG.com has doubts about the Fallout series, it's definitely a black eye for Bethe$da and co, and it really sucks to be losing DRM-Free classics for the gaming community.

Thanks!

Bull3tM0nk3y: Hi everyone, new to GOG.

So I'm using the GOG Downloader, and I get this error thingy:

Fetching Name...

Unable to fetch game details, please try again later.

Is something wrong? I am using 10.9 OS X.

Let me know if you guys need an image.

Also, Fallout Tactics is stuck at an ammount. 398.46 MB out of 1.68 GB.
2384792384723947 people are all trying to get free copies of Fallout today, it's a better idea to just leave it on your game shelf for a day or so until the crowd dies down and to ease the load on the GOG servers. :)
Thanks GOG! Sending them as gifts as I already bought Tactics from GOG some months ago and I already have #1 and 2 on CD's which surprisingly still works on my WIndows 7 computer.

I was about to say you should grab them for yourself anyway, in case the disc versions stopped playing so nicely with future OS versions... then the horror struck me: no more Fallout on GOG means no more GOG-tested compatibility fixes for it. Back to the land of unofficial patches and forum folklore. :-/
Awesome. Another reason why the site is outstanding. Loyal customer for vida!

Chandoraa: So if I understood correctly:

Big publisher bullies GOG, so GOG decides to fight back by being even more awesome to their userbase. Way to go, GOG. This is yet another resonating FU from GOG to middlemen's DRM, IP-whoring, and otherwise being major assholes. And there's an additional message attached: "Don't fuck with GOG". Masterful, really. Good riddance to any company that refuses to deal with the most respectful (and thus respectable) game retailer I've ever encountered.
That's not really what is happening at all. Interplay had financial difficulties and made a deal with Bethesda a while back with the Fallout games. There were disputes about what the agreement was all about and they fought it out in court and Bethesda won, so Interplay is losing the rights to the Fallout game series. GOG's deal to sell the games is with Interplay, and when Interplay loses the rights to sell the games, GOG's ability to provide it in their store also terminates unless they can negotiate a deal with Bethesda. Bethesda however seems more keen on Steam than they do towards DRM-free gaming and so it appears that for now at least Bethesda games wont be appearing on GOG.

That could change in the future of course but it is the way it looks for now. While this sucks, ultimately Interplay screwed themselves by making the deal with Bethesda in the first place to stop from becoming insolvent.

Hopefully we'll see the bigger studios like Bethesda eventually start to come around and see the merits of DRM-free gaming, but until then we'll have to settle for giving our money to others who do. :)
[Can't delete... grr.]

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/202427990993412096 - hmmm. Over 12 months ago, and not particularly enthusiastic, but who knows. I'd not rate the chances particularly, but still possible.

Finally managed to join the club of happy GOGers that proudly carry all Fallout games on their shelf - many thanks to GOG and Interplay for the amazing early Christmas present, greatly appreciated :-)

Though it's quite disheartening that we get this generous gift under these circumstances - GOG and the Fallout games kind of go hand-in-hand and it'll be a bit darker without them here. Really big shame Bethesda refuses to recognise GOG's role in not only reviving the games but also introducing them to newer generations. But then, Bethesda never really recognises anything good anybody does, so not that surprising, just sad and disappointing :(
Amusing to think that I joined this site specifically for these and Ultima Series. Money grubbing Bethesda is a real disappointment.
