I'm currently actively looking for a good solo (PC) RPG, action-RPG, tactical RPG, whatever-RPG (except jRPG, can't stand them, sorry), but can't think of a good one.

I'll make an exhaustive list of played games, just to clear things:

Hmm... this is quite a doozy. It seems you've played a lot of the most obvious ones...even Mount and Blade!

Well, here's some I can think of:

Diablo I/II
Gothic 2
Temple of Elemental Evil
Sacred Gold
X-COM: Ufo Defense (although that's stretching the "RPG" definition a bit, I guess)
System Shock II (hard to get a hold of, unfortunately)
Arx Fatalis

I haven't myself played Gothic 2, ToEE, Sacred, or Arx Fatalis, but I believe they are supposed to be good.

Ooh, and try Ultima IV. It's free, and a lot of people love it (I haven't gotten around to getting it yet). Dragonsphere is also free, but I know very little about that one.

Ah yep, might be the time to try the second trilogy. thanks! How could I forget the elder scrolls series! I already played 3 and 4, but never played Arena or Daggerfall.

And games from spiderweb look interesting... but quite expensive. Do you have a preference for a specific game from them? Hmmmm, I think I remember this game. It was very interesting and appealing with its dnd mechanics, but horribly slow paced.

-Gothic 1 and 2: 3 is the weakest in the series so you if you liked 3 odds are you will love the first two.
-Fire Emblem/Shining Force: Yup JRPGs, I don't consider them as such because they go against most of the conventions of that genre. If you liked King's Bounty or Jagged Aliiance odds are you will like these.
-Fable: RPG lite but still fun to kill some time with.
-NWN: Darkness Over Daggerford. Free module that was supposed to be a premium one. Odds are if you check the sub-forum you will find more. Can't help you on the sequel because I couldn't stand the camera and sloppy party handling mechanics.
-Oblivion: Debatable if this is even an RPG but this is the most fun I had with the Elder Scrolls. Add 20 or so mods to really make it great. You are going to get recommendations for Morrowind but I suggest you check out some videos because the game is very hard to get into as a newcomer now.
-Guild Wars: Best online RPG out there, period.

The divinity series are ok. Divine divinity was good, beyond divinity was meh. The newr one and expansion i think are decent enough but they dont capture the spirit of the first

Din's Curse. It's a sleeper hit, in my opinion. There's a demo out there for it too.

As for my personal preference - The original Exile Trilogy. You need a machine/emulator that still still supports Win16 though.

I'll definitely look into Gothic 2, and maybe Arx fatalis.

I already played the Diablo, years ago. Might be a good idea to reinstall them, but I'm not anymore fond of hack&slash! Maybe when I'll feel really desperate :)

Never played System shock 2. I guess I'll wait it to appear on GoG! I'll look into the previous Gothic, Fire Emblem/Shining Force (I need to emulate them, right?), and the nwn module (looks interesting).

Concerning Fable, I bought it back in the days but totally hated it. The entire world looked fake, with a good/bad-o meter I found ridiculous. But hey, maybe I was too harsh!

and Guild Wars... hmmm knowing myself, it may be a bad thing to try something online. Already intensively played World of Warcraft and DDO, and was quite addicted. Yeah, right, I'll dig into the older games. Never really tried one of them (except the M&M) I tried Divine Divinity a while ago, but can't really remember of it. Is it a typical Hack&Slash, or something more elaborate?

System Shock II should DEFINITELY be near the top of your list. The RPG elements, while not quite as open as Deus Ex's or Baldur's Gate, are pretty deep, and survival gameplay and whole feel of the game is top-notch.

The Second Avernum Trilogy (4+5+6) will easily gobble up huge chunks of your time, as will Geneforge 4+5. You might not like Avadon but it's worth trying out the demo too.

Shining Force 1 and 2 do need to be emulated but they are $3 each on Gamersgate with a built in emulator.

Fire Emblem 6 (in Japanese but has an English patch for the ROM), 7 and 8 does need emulation and there is currently no way to get it legally on the PC, its a Nintendo franchise (the only good one as far as I'm concerned) so yeah.. The ones on GBA are the best while the one on Gamecube and the one on Wii are OK but not great.

Guild Wars is buy the box and the online is free like an FPS. The game is more of something you will pick up and play a lot of and then put down for a few months. It isn't a continuous thing like WoW, DDO or LotRO.
