I know DayZ can't be categorized as an old game. But I'm quite excited toward this game. A true survival horror where we have to take care not only the zombies or ourself, but also another players. As they have possibilities to turn hostile toward us.

This game is a mod for ARMA2. So it's free as long you own ARMA2 in your PC. This also cause some people to hesitate in trying it as they have to purchase ARMA2 and one of its add on. But worry not, Bohemia Interactive announce that this game will be released as a standalone game.

Not bad, but I'm not a fan of the split development cycle. I guess I can buy another copy though, especially if the standalone can surpass the engine limitations.
Just like Iron Front: Liberation?
It would be great, because I don't want to buy entire Arma 2 pack for that one mod.

Well, they already promised a LOT of updates for the standalone version, like they said, release it early, update often.

It's not that bad of a deal - 25 quid here and it was 20% off for like weeks and 40% off during the summer sale. AND you get two ArmA games with it.
I definitely have not regretted my purchase. The game is great.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the updates simply because I fail to get hyped up on promises.

By the way, there's also a game called War Z which is pretty much a direct ripoff of the Day Z universe with a lot of promises:

Will keep an eye on both!

I don't really know about Iron Front Liberation. In DayZ you spawn on a point with a handgun. You need to scour the buildings and towns around the (huge) map for canteen, food, weapons, ammo, tent, and other necessities.

You have hunger and thirst meter so you have to eat and drink periodically or you will getting dehydrated or starved. You can gather food and drinks from the grocery store or you can hunt and get water from rivers.

You have to avoid zombies as most of them are runners. You can bleed so you need to stock up on bandages and first aids.

Weapons and ammo can be gained from buildings or military bases (or crashed helicopters).

Also you can only carry a limited amount of items. If you want to keep most of your items you have to find a tent and build your tent somewhere safe. Other players can raid your tent.

Other players can kill you and loot your body for stuff. This is the main attraction as trust truly an important thing here.

Note, this game use real 24 hours clock. Also nighttime is realistic. So if it's dark, it IS dark. You have to either get a flare, flashlight or Night Vision Google.

Here's a gameplay video:

ArmA 2 mod gone solo.

Me too. After Dragon Rising I'm burned in playing ultra realistic army simulation. Need to cool down a little bit.

Thanks for the WarZ info. From the look of it they prefer to focus on the action. Maybe it will be different than DayZ that focused more on the suspense.

It will be an interesting one. The dev team of DayZ is highly sceptical of it because:
1) It is a blatant rip-off of DayZ
2) They are promising A LOT of things that the dev team of DayZ finds extremely difficult to implement. I just signed up for the closed beta on their website which is supposed to go live "later this summer," but the game has been in development for less than a year.

Honestly, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Also out of curiosity - when did you last play DayZ? Because you haven't spawned with a pistol for quite some time now.

Also, congrats for the mod hitting 1 million+ players!

Not anymore.
I hope it's got singleplayer / standalone server software that I can connect to myself. I'd play it then.

I simply bookmark their site. I can start believing them if they can release a gameplay video or release a demo.

Also I don't play DayZ yet (maybe I forgot to mention it on my OP) as I still building a new PC (my old one gone kaput due to overheating) but my friends already gushing about it and I saw a lot of gameplay videos in youtube.

As a budget gamer I'm glad they release a stand alone version, I bet it will be much more cheaper.
