I'd a hard time returning in Switzerland as a teen, coming straight from an eastern Europe country. Having both nationalities, I've experimented the casual racism and feeling of superiority some westerners, have over eastern Europeans, begin Swiss as well didn't helped much in that regard :p . And, of course, don't forget that terrible attitude of seeing Switzerland like the pinnacle of western civilization and the most evolved country in Europe surrounded by a jealous mob of beggars.

TStael: Have you ever felt it yourself, or do you see hard attitudes towards your fellow men?

Telika: I spent most of last year dealing with refugees, foreign workers and asylum seekers, in Greece, during the crisis and the rise of the Golden Dawn's neonazis (yes they are).

Does this qualify ?
Dealing with..?

Shall not organizing tours unto the three constitutionally legit minarets in Switzerland mount to opposing neo-Nazis, possibly? ;-)

Should this qualify ... I think you know why indeed. And I do like your reply, +1.
Hi, great topic subject, thanks for the idea and the chance to express ourselves about that..

I did have a lonely teenage, I was perceived as some kind of dark necromancer for some reason by my fellow scholars, while I never been interested in black magic, or white, or whatever kind of? o_O

I guess because I have a pale white skin with dark hair, like that evil kid movie, DAMIAN err.. Or recently, LUCIUS game character. :/

University was the worst.. I have a chronic skin disease, a sort of urticaria / eczema, itchy areas on / around my nose, forehead, eyes, upper lip, chin.. It appears under pressure of heavy stress.. From red parts of skin at best to wet, yellowish / bloody ones, to plain crusts of dead skin.. That prevented me to simply attend the studies, the look from others was unbearable, I felt like a leper or a HIV person, locked myself in my tiny room for most of these two years.. One year for an English licence, my dream job was working in translation or eventually, foreign teaching abroad, then one year in psychology.. Failed exams, of course without lessons.. Currently I am looking forward to a humanitarian work, probably as a 1 year volunteer but still so much to stabilize on my personal health before taking the move..

Today I have an efficient medicine, blue cream for that.. Link to my disease..

the_atm: yeah. I'm rather open about being a Christian and I find over 80% of the time that I mention that I am christian, I'm suddenly blamed for every single war, for hating everybody, and being a self absorbed bigot. Obviously none of those things are true yet people will still hate me for it.
You're paying for the vocal minority.

I second that, didn't dare to add it on my post for more, but you are not alone.. Take heart, fellow Christian! :)

Unfortunately yes but he shouldn't have to pay for the actions of others. Attacking someone for the actions of others is uncivilized cruel beast like angry peasant mob behavior. People should take the time to get to know each person they come across. There are exceptions of course.

Well, you seem to be from Canada, so maybe it's different there, but most people who are "rather open" about their religion are also assholes about it all the time. I've never known a Canadian to be an asshole (except one time when the Tim Horton's on Kandahar shut down before the hockey rink was built, but that's some extenuating circumstances right there) so perhaps you're undeserving. But a lot of the people who are eager to share their religion? Not really helping you out for the times when you speak up.

As to the OP, I find that people are very intolerant of me because I am an asshole. People are really quite bigoted against us, just because we're mean all the time. Can't wait for it to be classified as an actual disorder.

Oh, wait.

Well, dealing with their situations (offering administrative/legal support, mostly...).

Have you ever seen how people from Zürich and Basel talk about each other?
Much harsher than they talk about "Yugos" or any other foreign demographic. I tried to explain in post 27 why no one should take these things personal. When someone calls you a "Yugo" they just want to insult you with a cheap shot, if you were 100% Swiss then they would use some other insults. Though verbally manifested as racism, it's really just pecking. The most effective defense against that is to laugh at the person doing it.
Or if you want to be evil, insult them back with something that has a little more weight.
Here's an example: I was walking home from school and a classmate said that my dad was a "nigger" (my dad is 100% Indian so his skin is deep dark).
I answered: "Well, at least MY dad isn't a drunkard, yours is probably hanging out at that pub over there right now ya know..."

The guy fell insta-silent and never insulted my dad again, as in ever :D **

I don't understand how anyone can be hurt by racism, it's not like a racist comment has any weight behind it.

**his dad was an actual alcoholic, sadly

In the freedom to express yourself, a lot of people forget that it's a two-way street. Having the liberty to say what you want comes with the caveat of having to listen to things that you don't want to hear.

Like this guy, I don't agree with ANYTHING he's saying AT ALL but, I respect his right to say it. the part of that video that pisses me off the most is not the inflammatory things he is saying but, the people that are attempting to deny him his right to do so. I see a lot of similar behavior on the web as well where unpopular opinions and thoughts are met with what amounts to digital violence and the hypocrisy of it all gets me just as angry. I will stand up for a persons right to express themselves, even if I don't agree with they are saying.

Needless to say, I am pretty unpopular in a lot of places.

I wasn't talking about the freedom to express yourself.... I'm talking about people automatically attacking someone because that person calls himself or herself a "Christian" and in their memories they have seen OTHER people who call themselves "Christian" do this, say that etc. People need to stop judging so quickly if they want the world to be a better place. People have brains...they should fucking use them. And unfortunately, some people just like using people as punching bags to satisfy their rage towards the Christians who have pissed them off. And that is not fair.

PS
No, I'm not against people having the freedom to attack every single Christian they encounter with words. But it's fucking retarded behavior and the people who are guilty of this should stop. Yeah, people also have the freedom to throw battery acid at their own faces but that's also fucking retarded behavior. Just because someone has the freedom to do something doesn't mean, they should do it. Look at some epic fail videos on Youtube. :)

I prefer not to speak on a whole of every christian in Canada but for myself, I don't shove my beliefs down people's throats nor "give em' the good news" but if the topic comes up I admit I'm a christian, that's about it. I attempt to not be rude about it.

And personally as a Canadian I have an extreme hatred of Tim Hortins... their coffee tastes burnt and... well that's just me but either way haha,

And Koima57, it's good to know were not alone!

It's all about freedom of expression. However, being free to say what you want doesn't make you exempt from taking responsibility for what you say. I respect your freedom to express your beliefs, just as much as the freedom for anyone to criticize them. What I won't stand for is anyone attempting to deny either of those freedoms.

It's about allowing the room for all thoughts and ideas - whether we like them or not.

I have a bad habit of posting too soon. I'm all for people's freedom but having the freedom to behave like a uncivilized beast doesn't mean people should make use of that freedom. People should use their freedom to act like decent human beings who don't waste oxygen. Of course, taking away someone's right to attack every single "Christian" they come across without actually getting to know each one of them is not an option unless we want live in a prison type country. My posts in this thread are really just me express my disgust with people who automatically attack others for the action of others... I mean, even animals don't do that.... So these people are worse than animals.

I as well wish people would be more responsible with their freedoms but, the "uncivilized beast" should be just as free to speak as any "decent human being". This is the basis of egalitarianism that the modern world is founded on, that all men are created equal. To deny one freedom is to deny all freedoms.
