Hahaha!!! UK_John I only negatived you because I'm a jerk. Also you take the rating system too seriously. Bwahahaha!!!
P.S. Also once again, I'm inebriated as usual. Also your mom.
It had David Bowie, no?
I'm going senile.
Bowie did parts of the soundtrack and had cameos as multiple characters.
TNS had quite an atmosphere, indeed, but its gameplay was really awful : I remember the FPS parts of it... bleh :(
Though the freeroam part was exciting, so was the story and the universe... bawww I want to play it again. Or more like "live it" again!
I guess I am among the ones who finished and loved this game.
First of all, the whole soundtrack was composed by Reeves Gabrel and Bowie. Gabrel, for those not in the know, has been the main guitar and co-composer in lots of Bowie albums. It also included what would later become the "Hours..." album, complete, as playable tracks for the in-game audio device. The only exception would be the main song, New Angles of Promise, which in Omikron is remixed and re-sung. It even featured We All Go Through as the ending theme, which was introduced in a later edition of the album.
The game, although not perfect in any of the several genres it touched, was a great achievement in mixing them all together with relative success and logic.
It's best part was, however, the graphic adventure. Most of its major puzzles could be solved in different ways (mix a potion or possess a specific character to convince someone). It was also quite good in getting you into some of the characters' lives, mainly the cop parts.
It also had some wonderful features, like being able to override the taxis automatic driving system, which allowed you to drive around the city, its many secret zones which could only be accessed with certain characters or objects (one of them being a woman who has all the soundtrack available at her home)...
And it also had one of the most difficult finals I have ever seen. But it was so worth it... Listening to a completely new Bowie song was like touching the clouds.
I loved this game when I played it, despite its failures, and consider it one of the golden pieces of game development. Quantic Dream earned my love and respect with this.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish gog would get this game, mainly because it's one of the only lgames I can absolutely not get to work properly under XP.
I remember playing it for the dreamcast and loving it, but I never finished it. Then I picked it up for pc a few years ago sadly I could never get it to work properly.
IIRC it also had no way to customize your controls? I remember something about it having to use the arrow keys, I'd love to play it with w/s/a/d support.

Same here. Picked up the game on eBay for a good price, but haven't for the life of me been able to get it working in XP.

Oh yeah, the non-adventure gameplay elements were underwhelming to say the least. The game box boasted driving, fighting, and shooting, but all of those aspects were terrible.

Yep, you had to control your character like a tank. I don't remember if the FPS parts were controlled the same though.
Well, dreams come true. I guess. :)
I half read something about savepoints? As a PC-gamer I say what's the deal with those? but once as a fanatic playstation gamer.. "You PC gamers suck in all games if it isn't fragging something with a mouse move".

Anyway.. My point is, I'm going to buy this game at some point 'cos not many bad things has been said and that's pretty good for a game.

no soundtrack though. If I ever buy the game I'll have to put on my "Changes" cd to make the experience complete.
i remember playing this game's demo from a pc magazine disk, i had never played game like it till then i mean that open world and calling sliders to move around was impressive back then not sure if i understood what the game story was about. played the demo to its full limits

Is the full game really worth playing or you get bored out later once you move around to all places ?
Yes, a good game but has anyone ever beaten the third or fourth opponent in the combat arena ? Because of him, I have never finished the game. ^^ Maybe I should try with a pad (I have the PC version).

I say it is worth it. The story is interesting.
